ZeroMaster010 Posted February 28, 2020 I am making this post to make it absolutely clear to anyone using any TAS features that you NEED to mark your demo as TAS. I have detected clear evidence of cheating in one of the recent demos submitted. I hope that anyone that have used tools to claim non-tas demos stop doing it. I understand that there are demos that can be difficult and frustrating to record at times, I suggest you move on to something else instead of giving into the temptation of cheating to get it out of the way. A lot of experienced runners will tell you the times of their old demos are terrible, you will most likely see it the same way as you get better and easily achieve your goal later, so there's no need to complete some demo immediately if it's frustrating you by using tools. We already had one player step forward and admit to using tools a few months back and personally that's fine by me as long as you don't do it again and your demos are marked properly. While I'm not the one in charge of DSDArchive it's likely that you will be banned from there if you are found to be cheating over a long time period. I suggest if you have been cheating to come clean, either here or in PM with a list of demos that are not legitimate. 32 Share this post Link to post
dew Posted February 29, 2020 Doom speedrunning is inherently quite easy to cheat in, sadly. However the analytical abilities to detect such cheating are improving over time and the short term glory might not be worth the eventual scorn. Consider that we value seeing gradual growth as much as comet talent in players. Help us keep up the unique value of Doom speedrunning, which is mutual trust. 7 Share this post Link to post
alps Posted March 1, 2020 looking up demos in xdre, it would be rather easy to see if someone is manipulating rng or re-recording the clip while moving or any impossible action happening (in tics). 0 Share this post Link to post
DoomedDude Posted March 2, 2020 @ZeroMaster010 Yeah, I do apologize for cheating, I didn't really expect these demos to go by unnoticed, I was curious how hard it was to make a TAS demo look human. I won't do it again. The only demos I have cheated were my 52 second E3M7 demo and my 8 second e1m1 demo. 0 Share this post Link to post
almostmatt1 Posted September 12, 2020 A little over three months ago, @kraflab personally messaged me on Discord to inform me that I had been caught cheating runs, to which I did not reply and instead opted to just disassociate myself from Doom due to, straight-up, a ridiculous inability to deal with confrontation. I'll be the first to say that anything said now is too little too late, but I want to publicly say something nonetheless. First I want to apologize (and should probably also apologize for resurrecting this old thread, but felt it was the best place to write this). When I was involved in Doom speedrunning the community was great and always helped me with every question I had, and in return I repaid that kindness with the disrespect of having cheated runs, not to mention the bullshit of my total silence to Kraflab after their confrontation. It was especially cowardly after another speedrunner had been fairly publicly outed as a cheater, after I had cheated, and I still did not come forward. There's just no justification for any of that (let alone my actions, by cheating, of making harder the great work of the individuals working hard to maintain an accurate DSDA), I don't mean to claim one and frankly I'm certain no-one cares about hearing one. (As not a justification but a brief insight - I'd been dealing with some crappy health issues and after some time of attempts, hitting goal times in Doom speedrunning was my way of occasionally feeling I was getting "a win" - even if I was cheating. Yeah, this now makes absolutely zero goddamn sense to me and it shouldn't make sense to you. And hey, who fucking cares anyway, right? Cheating is cheating is cheating.) All of my demos on DSDA have since been reasonably marked as dubious. A main reason I'm writing this is that, for archival accuracy, I want to confirm that some are not just dubious but definitely cheated. (Extreeemely gross feeling to now read those .txt's written as if the runs were genuine.) I'm not saying this in any attempt to clear the other ones. - Eviternity D2all nomo in 54:37. (Actually, not sure why this is marked as dubious and not cheated as this is the one Kraflab confronted me about with rather clear evidence.) - Alien Vendetta Map 04 NoMo100s 1:15:57. - Evit Map 01 NoMo 0:25.91. - Evit map 04 NoMo 1:03.91. - Evit Map 10 NoMo 100S 1:56.26, I'm pretty sure. - Evit Map 11 NoMo 1:26.31. - Evit map 21 NoMo 0:23.97. - Alien Vendetta UV-Speed 1:08:00. - Plutonia Map 23 NoMo 1:10.97 As disgusting as it is to admit, there are possibly a few more that I'm not right now recalling (due to a few beers). If I think of any more when I'm in a little more of a sober state I'll either edit this post or message someone personally. Again, I'm really, really, really sorry. It means nothing to come from me after what I've done but if anyone reading is thinking about cheating, please just don't. Regardless of your high likelihood of being caught, this community doesn't deserve it. 19 Share this post Link to post
Death Destroyer - 4.7m4d Posted March 17, 2021 Before I begin, I'd like to express my sincerest apology to everyone in the doom community. To both speed runners and mapper for my shameful dishonesty. What I am about to confess isn't as simple of a mistake as it may really seem because its too severe to be easily reprimanded for. You might have already guessed it by now, but I . I was dishonest in submitting some of my demos that I passed of as non-TAS demos to the DSDA and as you could imagine, this will be a detailed confession. For those of you who may not know, I go by the speedrunner alias "A7MAD" and I cheated in some of the runs that I submitted from 2017 September up-to 2018 February, only within this specific time-frame. Here I am confessing about this in 2021; nearly 3 (and a half) years later. As @Ancalagon called me out earlier in the channel, there were some irregularities with some of my demo and rather than this being a leaving confession or a Shakespeare play, it will just be a "simple" confession; with some background information. Let me start of first on how all this came about. 14/15 year old me stumbled upon doom back in early 2017. I became interested in the game because I had played it earlier with my friends as early as 2009 so I had joined the doomworld forums under the alias "A7MAD" where I, more or less, participated in the forums where I started spouting real regrettable stuff back then. I then decided to participate in the speedrunning category of doom, in which I tried speedrunning some of the incredible maps that were trending at the time, most notable of which: New Gothic Movement 2, Italo and Experiencing Nirvana. I played them for the first time, had great fun (mostly) and tried speed running them. At that time, I was never really aware of prboom-plus's TAS feature, since I was a complete novice after all, so everything I had submitted up until then were legit for the most part (2017 Pre September). After getting acquainted with those TAS features, and submitting a couple of chillax TAS runs, I started speedrunning one of the harder wads and I was frustrated that I couldn't get an exit despite me practicing over this map and being able to achieve a time of "sub-whatever". Even after I was this close to finishing the map, I'd usually just die to one of the annoying things that keeps frustrating me but yeah, I was terribly bad in the game back then, with little to no information on game sense so I though that: Hey, cant I just use those TAS features that I learnt previously such as segmenting and use them in the demo? I didn't think about it much at the time, I just went ahead and did it not even fearing the severe consequence of my actions. At the moment, I had stepped into a realm of something I can never turn my back into. Fast-forward to mid-February 2018 and I started realizing that what I was doing was not just bad, but really really bad. Only then, had I realized the gravity of my predicament especially with seeing my TAS runs marked as non-TAS in DSDA. After this, I stopped submitting TAS demos and started submitting legit demos such as my sf2012(s), sl645, it11(2:48 and 2:51) demo which I though were amazing to my surprise . I saw Kimo's confession and I though I should do one myself and then move on, but even a simple task of confession was too much for a coward like me. It then became a never-ending cycle of me wishing to confess because of my guilt but as a coward I couldn't go ahead and get it over with. Now comes 2021, I am now 19 years old and I learnt over the past years to own up to my mistakes and I avoided ending up like my stubborn past teenage self of mine. I can now finally be rid of this guilt and be at ease with myself knowing I can get this message through. I already contacted @ZeroMaster010 about what my next steps are, and you can expect some demos to either be removed or marked as cheated, but I hope that everyone can find a place in your heart to forgive me. I take full responsibility for my actions and I make no excuses for myself. I never submitted any TAS demos after 2018 Feb and I never will. The fact that the community has grown to such a substantial growth even baffles me to this day. I will continue making doom demos out of my own enjoyment so call me out for being foolish all you want because I totally deserve it. Have a nice day, 16 Share this post Link to post
