HateFactor Posted January 25, 2003 A Doom TC for Max Payne - wow. I don't know if anybody's seen this just yet, but this mod rocks (or at least looks like it will). Look at the screens! =O http://doom.maxpayneheadquarters.com/ 0 Share this post Link to post
Use Posted January 25, 2003 Doom doesn't need the gimmicky bullet-time, but otherwise this looks pretty sweet. 0 Share this post Link to post
Darkstalker Posted January 25, 2003 It looks sweet but... is it at least legal ? When a team tried to port doom to Q3, didn't they stopped due to copyrights laws and stuff ? 0 Share this post Link to post
DOOM Anomaly Posted January 25, 2003 I must say, that does look pretty sweet :D 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted January 26, 2003 HOLY SHIT!! Whoever is doing their character modeling is the sh4t! 0 Share this post Link to post
Lord FlatHead Posted January 26, 2003 That mod definetly looks neat, but as soon as id notice it, they're going to be shut down one way or another. Copyright laws don't allow you to distribute content from a commercial game as part of a non-commercial mod, end of story. Darkstalker said:When a team tried to port doom to Q3, didn't they stopped due to copyrights laws and stuff ? Yes we did, even though we weren't using a single bit of media from the original Doom. Maybe it was for the best though. I haven't checked up on them for a year, but apparently now they've decided to restart the project without explicit Doom references, and make it a Quake 4 mod. Whatever, guys. Thanks for wasting my time. Scuba Steve said:HOLY SHIT!! Whoever is doing their character modeling is the sh4t! The player model is just the Doom character from Quake 3 Arena ported straight over. Another reason why this mod is a copyright violation. I don't like it any more than you do, but I guess we have to accept it. 0 Share this post Link to post
Scuba Steve Posted January 26, 2003 Lord FlatHead... ...Totally missed the sarcasm Oh... I thought I had seen that model somewhere before. 0 Share this post Link to post
Vile Posted January 26, 2003 Somebody tell them before they get the project almost finished and THEN get shut down. The owners of the copyrighted material love to wait until such time that it would hurt the most. ;) They really should know by now, though, it's happened so many times. Besides, porting games to other games is silly, IMO. 0 Share this post Link to post

Fletcher` Posted January 26, 2003 Sorry to say, but this proj's gonna burn. :( 0 Share this post Link to post
Lizardcommando Posted January 26, 2003 Hey, that looks cool! It looks like I'm not the only one that wanted to see bullet time in Doom, :p. 0 Share this post Link to post

chilvence Posted January 26, 2003 Keeping the spirit of doom? By slowing it down? Eh? 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted January 26, 2003 Is it just me, or does the doomguy, in all his heavy "porn star" armour, look bloody stupid diving around like that? 0 Share this post Link to post
nxn Posted January 26, 2003 This is just what I alweys wanted, especially being big on max0r payne lately. 0 Share this post Link to post
DooMBoy Posted January 26, 2003 I must say that looks awful nice, but the DoomGuy + bullet time = silly looking. 0 Share this post Link to post
Nick Perrin Posted January 26, 2003 Pfeh. If you want doom, play doom. If you want Max Payne, jump into the baleen of a blue whale. Edit: It does look great though... 0 Share this post Link to post
stphrz Posted January 26, 2003 'Scuse me. But Fredrik is right. It doesn't look all that terrific... JDoom or Legacy in gl mode look at least as good if not better ('cept for the models of course). 0 Share this post Link to post

chilvence Posted January 27, 2003 Never played it. Ill be sure to look though. 0 Share this post Link to post
Amaster Posted January 27, 2003 The whole dual pistol thing just doesnt look right for doomguy (if thats what is shown in those pics). Also, doomguy doesnt seem like the type who would be doing all those acrobatics, he'd just want to get the job done, and done quickly. But it's just a game, and its just a TC so meh. I'd still want to play it. 0 Share this post Link to post

Captain Red Posted January 27, 2003 Idon't really see the point of porting doom to the max pain engine... now if some clever person would port it to serious sam... (befor I get fifty angry people telling me that doom is nothing like serous sam, I might say that the serous sam engine would be the best engine to handle doomy type maps.) I am planning to look at this though 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted January 27, 2003 Ct_red_pants said:(befor I get fifty angry people telling me that doom is nothing like serous sam, I might say that the serous sam engine would be the best engine to handle doomy type maps.) Hmmm, yeah. I can see that working. The Serious engine would be a good one to use for a Doom TC. The biggest problem with SSam IMO was the poor maps, or rather the poor gameplay that resulted from the maps - especially those never ending monster spawning arena battles where you just had to keep blasting away until the script ran its course. That's not to say a lot of the levels didn't look good, they did. There were a whole bunch of other things I didn't like about the implementation of the Serious Sam idea too, but none of them are related to the engine itself. So, yeah, stick some good Doom enemies into some decent Doom style levels and the Serious engine could be a strong base for a Doom TC and it may well be able to capture a lot of what doom was/is about. 0 Share this post Link to post
