Doom 4 was started in 1998 and took 15 years to develop and came out in 2011 ending up a giant disappointment while it's competitor, Duke Nukem Forever, started in 1998 and released in 2001 to critical acclaim, calling it "the best first person shooter since Doom"

Doomguy got renamed to Doom Slayer in order to correlate with Doom Player, as in "he's supposed to be YOU".

Revenants can punch yes but they actually want to give all of you a hug in his way.

I have to say I am shocked that this thread hasn't even once mentioned the greatest piece of doom origins journalism to see the light of day.

Not true.

The Cacodemon was inspired by a sauce covered meatball Sandy Petersen accidentally left in the fridge at Id Software for 3 months, and when he found it again it looked like a demon-like thing. And such the Cacodemon was born.

Doom II's alpha release was episodic and this used to be the music to play on E2M3.
