[On Hold] Doom 32x: Delta

I don't know if you can get ahold of saxman, the creator of a lot of the Doom 32X utilities, but I remember, at one point he made a modified ROM that had more levels in it, so there's a chance you could have all the levels in one ROM instead of separate packs

The levels themselves aren't the problem. There is just not enough storage in the 32x ROM to have all the textures of Episode 1, 2 and 3 at the same time. For example e-doctor was able to cram all of Doom 1's maps inside and they ran (Laggily) with the limited amount of textures. Here, we aim for good performance with a good amount of PC textures. (Episode 3 will be more faithful to the PC original in terms of textures since a lot of the textures are reused as opposed to Episode 2)

E3M2 and none other than E3M5 have been ported, and they barely gave me any trouble! (Okay I sorta cheated with E3M5 by using the Jaguar Doom map but restoring things to be a bit more PC accurate, I simply did that because otherwise I would have needed to cut huge areas.) Expect a video soon.

Considering how hard it was to port the Episode 4 maps with fixed geometry (Because Episode 4s maps are big enough to make the game crash) no, I am going for the original 3 Episodes. (And hey, Thy Flesh Consumed wasn't released at that time, so Episode 1-3 would have been the best they could do)

Update on GBA Delta: It's going great!

 

Anyways, I have ported E1M1-E1M5 and I'm starting E1M6 today. If anyone is wondering for a release, I'd say early February the end of this week. For the time being, here's some photos:

Edit: Just finished E1M6, 7 , and 8 today, so the release will be much earlier (the end of this week should be the release hopefully).

Edit Edit: E1M9 is finished! Based it on the original Jaguar map but changed geometry/textures accordingly. Now all thats needed is polishing.

I never said there would be a new enemy in Episode 3. It was only for Episode 2.

E3M4 and E3M6 are being worked on at the moment. Also, there may be some spiders in the final release, I dont have an anti-spider spray. ;)

Doom GBA: Delta episode one is out with a trailer!

Anyways this is the first release. If there is a mistake in one of the maps or if I overlooked something, please let me know! As for if I'll work on an episode 2, yes I will. But not now probably. But I have been tinkering with the GBA Doom editor and I found that I actually can add new textures without it breaking anything. However I'm still quite limited due to the ROM size but thanks to a tool called XSE, I can increase the ROM size. But I don't know if GBA Doom will be able to handle that big of a wad, so I'm still not sure. If it does work, I may consider doing a redux of episode 1 using this method.

Hi there, I did a tiny let's play of the 32X episode 1 rom hack

 

I put the SNES music 'cause I think it sounds better, combined with the sound effects (ignore the ManyCam logo down there, I forgot to disable the camera heheh)

So, the Spider Mastermind will not be making a comeback to 32x. However, in an interesting turn of events, the Icon of Sin will. (Without the spawners, of course, but hey, at least he'll be there.)

So it turns out Episode 2's bonus level was never there to begin with because of me accidentally deleting it when using SLADE. So, guess there's only two bonus maps now. Also release scheduled for today or tommorow.

I did say I was going to take a small break, but I was like "eh doesn't matter". What made the release super quick was due to me learning what the replace tool is in Doom Builder, so making maps was super easy. Also, as 32x: Delta didn't have an extra map, I made my own, that being a shortened version of Barrels of Fun! Not to mention that the Infernum Lords as well as the Illusions are here as well.

Hello, my dudes! It's me, again (*insert yaay sounds*).

 

I'm so sorry that this hack has to be dealyed, but I feel like we're almost there.

 

To be honest, I'm not that familiar with Doom's LZSS compression and I'm not really a programmer (I'm just an amateur), so may I ask you guys with some help with it? If you could, please, write me an e-mail to here: slendik75@gmail.com, as notifications from Doomworld don't show up for some reason. I also have accounts on Discord and Telegramm and other services, but I don't feel like sharing those contacts to the public (you know, privacy and stuff).

 

By the way, I've discovered some REALLY interesting stuff in the ROM, which could (or could not) prove that the multiplayer for the 32x version was planned!

 

Anyways, if anybody helps me, then I'd be very thankful and they'll be credited (of course!). Maybe I'll even buy a chocolate bar for them :-)

P.S. Thanks to Erick194, I can now use a disassembler, so I've changed something. You guys will absolutely love the new improvements in the final release, I promise ;-)
