Disorder Posted February 21, 2003 Try ad-aware by lavasoft. It's freeware and it removes all spyware from your pc. Look it up on Google, good luck :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Grazza Posted February 21, 2003 Disable javascript. Works for me (tm). 0 Share this post Link to post
Scientist Posted February 21, 2003 Buy a mouse. With this you can get rid off any pop-up by clicking on the little x on the top right of the pop-up. 0 Share this post Link to post
The Experience Posted February 21, 2003 The best software for that is Webwasher webwasher.com It is free for private use. You can also try proxomitron.org which offers a rich set of setting, but this is more for the expereinced users, fine if you would like to set ip up on a server acting as LAN proxy 0 Share this post Link to post

Remilia Scarlet Posted February 21, 2003 Doesn't the new Kazaa Lite also kill pop-ups? If you install that little extra piece that comes with it? 0 Share this post Link to post

Ichor Posted February 21, 2003 I just turn off JavaScript for Netscape, and not a single popup pops up. However, there's still the banner ads. For those I use Atguard. I may have to uninstall and reinstall it every three weeks or so, but it's worth it. And if I need to use JavaScript to visit a site, I just use Internet Explorer. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fredrik Posted February 21, 2003 If you use Mozilla, you can block most regular ads by adding stuff like this to userContent.css: iframe, applet, embed, object { display: none; } img[width="468"][height="60"] { display: none; } img[width=468][height=60] { display: none; } 0 Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted February 21, 2003 See 'Display Options', underneath the menu bar of the main page. 0 Share this post Link to post
Gokuma Posted February 21, 2003 I normally use Opera with javascript, pop-ups, and maybe some other stuff disabled. I see maybe an ordinary banner here or there. 0 Share this post Link to post
Epyo Posted February 21, 2003 A few days ago I turned on my computer and found adzapper. I like it cause it works and it's free. 0 Share this post Link to post

Yeah, the benefit of using Mozilla is that it runs so slowly that you can actually close it before anything untoward has had time to work. In any case, Explorer.exe is not the same as Iexplore. Killing the Iexplore process in Task Manager would eliminate the problem that site timmie posted poses. Or what I've done with my IE is to disable Active Scripting in the "Internet" zone. I modified the "Trusted Sites" zone to use the Medium default setting and add any site that needs Active Scripting to work to it. I don't "Trust" any sites to go through my "Low" setting. 0 Share this post Link to post

Naked Snake Posted February 21, 2003 Yeah, I use Mozilla, which is like 50000x better than IE. 0 Share this post Link to post
