Doomkid Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) I found a really nice, very high-res and clean PDF format scan of the Doom 2 manual: https://archive.org/details/doom-2-instruction-manual/ The quality is quite remarkable. I did find a copy of the Doom 1 manual, but it's a bit rough and it's specifically of the Australian release: https://www.starehry.eu/download/action3d/docs/Doom-Manual.pdf I know there are the manuals that come with all the Doom95-based releases, but these ones are nice because they're more universal, without all the D95 specific stuff. Any help is greatly appreciated! EDIT: Since I don't think another scan of the Doom Registered manual exists on the whole darn internet, I decided to take the existing one and "remaster" it. I think the result is a hell of a lot cleaner, even if not QUITE as HD as the Doom 2 manual scan that I found: before: after: before: after: Hopefully they look better! I think the quality is almost high enough for re-prints. Here is my cleaned-up D1 manual in PDF format, as well as a versions of the Doom 2 manual that was compressed from 14 meg down to 10 meg with no perceptible loss. Enjoy! Silhouette 03 Posted May 18, 2021 (edited) Nice find. It's hard to find good quality scans of the original manual. I see what you mean with the Doom 1 copy. The colours look saturated and almost washed out ( if that is the right term for that). I wish I could help, but my knowledge of where to find good PDFs on sites that won't destroy my PC are slim. I did find the SEGA Saturn manual, though. Not sure if that is rare or not https://segaretro.org/File:Doom_sat_us_manual.pdf#file 1 Share this post Link to post
out_of_service Posted May 18, 2021 A nice trip down memory lane! I wonder if that toll free number for the shirt and hat still works? 1 Share this post Link to post
The BMFG Posted May 18, 2021 for some reason when just slightly checking it out i noticed that for some reason some of the pages were duplicated. or maybe its just me 1 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted May 19, 2021 I found a Doom 2 manual and an Ultimate Doom for Win95 manual on eBay that were both in fairly decent condition - the only two that were visible from Aussie eBay. I normally am not the type to buy game manuals, but they weren’t too pricy, plus I have a high quality scanner so I may as well put it to use, since there’s apparently no scans of the UD manual anywhere on the web! 2 Share this post Link to post
Robo_Cola Posted May 19, 2021 (edited) I believe I do, let me find it in one sec Edit: Nevermind I just realized mine's the same as yours I think Edited May 19, 2021 by STILES 1 Share this post Link to post
Doomkid Posted May 19, 2021 That’s the Aussie Doom Registered manual there, STILES. Thank you though, I welcome any potential links! 0 Share this post Link to post
adamastor Posted May 19, 2021 Great find. That Doom II manual scan is great. I only had the copies of the IWAD manuals that come with it's acquisition on GOG. 2 Share this post Link to post
BunnyWithBeans Posted May 19, 2021 Doesn't the plot in the Doom II manual contradict the ending of Doom I? Doomguy comes out of hell and immediately sees the city on fire, but the manual says that he after he escaped hell, he decided to retire. You're probably not meant to think about it or care but still. 1 Share this post Link to post
Biodegradable Posted May 19, 2021 Awesome find, DK. I like how it even animates the pages turning. :^) 1 Share this post Link to post

You're probably not meant to think about it or care but still. You’re right, it’s an inconsistency in the writing! I think the story that’s commonly accepted is the one from the actual game - DoomGuy takes the portal back to Earth after defeating the SMM and sees the city in ruins instantly (and finds Daisy’s impaled head). No time for retirement - I’m guessing that bit about DoomGuy retiring was thoughtlessly added to the manual to explain the gap in time between Doom 1 and Doom 2? It’s also evidence that they weren’t taking the story too seriously. Thankfully that’s the only major inconsistency, at least that I’ve noticed. 0 Share this post Link to post
NoXion Posted May 20, 2021 (edited) Quote Recently however, the Gateways have grown dangerously unstable. Military "volunteers" entering them have either disappeared or been struck with a strange form of insanity- babbling vulgarities, bludgeoning anything that breathes, and finally suffering an untimely death of full-body explosion. Damn, that's pretty brutal... 1 Share this post Link to post

Sixty-nine Posted March 24, 2023 Cannot wait for a HD scan of the Doom 64 manual. While the story is the most overlooked part of the manual, there are HD renders of the models that should be preserved. 1 Share this post Link to post
whatup876 Posted December 19, 2023 Wanted to post here that the D2 manual link no longer works, so hope somebody preserved/saved it. This link seems fine: https://www.retrogames.cz/manualy/DOS/Doom_2_-_Manual_-_PC.pdf And here's some that hopefully should still work: D64: https://www.retrogames.cz/manualy/N64/Doom_64_-_Nintendo_64_-_Manual.pdf FD: https://archive.org/details/Doom_Manual_Final_Doom/page/n3/mode/2up D1: https://www.retrogames.cz/manualy/DOS/Doom_-_Manual_-_PC.pdf 0 Share this post Link to post
