Doom Pictures Thread 2021

Recommended Posts

Through complete randomness of ideas, I tried to animate a sky for MBF. I thought it wouldn't work, thinking it might have been ZDooM that implemented it.

Turns out I was wrong! MBF + WooF supports animated textures as skies! :D

(soz the GIF is janky. Trying to record in OBS on an old pc is kinda hard without it looking bad :s)

For OTEX/Eviternity I had a 1024x200 pixel animated sky with 128 frames at one point, but it was such a ridiculous idea and took so much space that I scrapped it. But it works fine in regular Boom (though sky transfers are technically MBF).

This is looking incredible!

Sometimes changing themes within the mapping helps a lot, this time I wanted to create something natural and simple, it is not much, but it is progress :)

This looks exceptionally good. I'm a sucker for psychedelic, unusual skies like this and I wish they'd show up a bit more frequently. What format is this, out of curiosity? The reserved levels of detail make me think it could be vanilla, which I at least would very much approve of :P

Looking good! Glad to see Knave getting some love, it's a kickass texture pack.

Thanks :D. Yeah, we definitely need more surreal backdrops in doom wads.

Back when I first started it (around december 2019), I was going for the vanilla format. But since keeping it to vanilla limit was proving bit challenging on some parts + other mappers joined in on the project, I decided to continue it in a limit-removing format.

Started playing SERENTIY by Bjorn Hermans and Holger Nathrath from the Demon Gate shovelware disc. The 90's is where it's at!

Well you certainly can't go wrong with the E2 theme.

Playing BILBO11.WAD from Demon Gate. Now this is a WAD that has a funky beat that I've been trying to find for ages but completely forgot the name of it. And today I stumbled upon it lol. It's an earworm that's for sure.

Spoiler

and Hell3, which is meant to mimic the sky in Episode 4 of The Ultimate Doom, Thy Flesh Consumed.

These images and the previous ones are all west-facing, I have six images apiece to stitch together to make skyboxes.

These are nice! Are they taken on procedurally generated Earth-like planets in SpaceEngine?

If they are, the clouds got better since I last played with it. :-D

They're generated in the creative version of Terragen 4.  They've really improved the clouds in particular since the early versions which had just primitive 2D clouds.
