i watch cnn alot and i noticed on one of their self-commercials they used the romero head box spawning sound in it.

That is exactly why I hate stocksounds used for movies. Lot's of explosions have that 'swhooosshh' sound, used in Doom for those cubes.

Totally true. It even turned up on an antiques show here, as a sound accompaniment to a change in VT graphics.

Btw I only watch antiques shows because it's my dad's homepa.. uhh..

Talking of Doom sounds being used outside Doom, in the credits for the album Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by the Smashing Pumpkins, it mentions:

"Explosion from DOOM courtesy of id Software, Inc and bobby prince Music"

However, I never noticed where it was used. Has anyone else?

BTW, I only listened to a Smashing Pumpkins album because ... ah shit, that's not going to work either.

Yes, its quite obvious on one of the songs. I can't remember which song it is on, but I'm pretty sure its one of the ones on the second disk. But yeah, its there...I actualy noticed it before reading the credits.
