No, id Software never gave the Doom Marine (the one in Doom and Doom2) a name.

That hasn't prevented some other people from attaching a name to the marine though. :(

Heh, I always assumed that the Doom Marine was meant to be you, and that was that.

He has no actual name. The books (I think) named him Flynn Taggart, but it's much better if he has no name and is just "you."

I've always just called him "Doom guy", but he's called "Doom" in Quake 3.

He is just a nameless hero. His name can be anything: flynn, jim, etc...

Hm, me looking at the status bar then go the mirror...
That's evil cause I remember many monoply fights just because my sister fought she and the blue pawn were the same person while blue was my favourite color and she didn't know the rules too. But I agree, the bleeding face also added to the suspension of disbelief.

Of course, with console-based source ports you can change it to any name you like...

I like that feature. My marine is called Xaser. Can anyone guess why. :)

In Planet of the Imps and my site Finite And Beyond!, we call him "Doomguy".

Yeah, Doom Guy is a very appropriate name, IMHO.

I've always just called him the "doomguy". more of just to make it slightly funny. Then it turns out I wasn't the only one who called him that.
like calling the guy from harvest moon "harvest boy".
