Grogglogobofink Posted July 30, 2003 napster was great while it lasted, but it's dead, so live with it. soulseek is our only salvation now. 0 Share this post Link to post

I've tried out a couple of versions of Soulseek, but they all crash or hang up on load or whenever I try to do something :\ I currently use DC++, and it works quite well except for not being able to download one file from multiple simultaneous sources. 0 Share this post Link to post
gatewatcher Posted July 31, 2003 BlackFish said:They are going to make you pay! *sticks with Kazza They are going to make you pay, quite literally. Get Kazaa Lite++, that is if you don't want to be hunted down by the riaa. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dingus Khan Posted July 31, 2003 I think Kazaa Lite might be a bad idea too. On the homepage it says "keep corporations like the RIAA from catching you with our new IP blocker". I think that adds extra incentive for the RIAA to try to catch someone using it. I currently have Kazaa and used it for a week, but i'm still a bit paranoid about it. You think they'd catch a guy that doesnt share files and only downloads porn? That's all I want. Free fucking porn. I'm interested in the other programs you guys have mentioned though, what all do they offer? 0 Share this post Link to post

It turns out 18 people just got ARRESTED in my area for downloading porn off Kazaa, its a bad idea to use that ESPECIALLY if your ip can be detected 0 Share this post Link to post

What's soulseek like? 0 Share this post Link to post
Liam Posted August 1, 2003 it's pretty much designed with music in mind, hence the lack of multi-source downloading. if you wanted exclusively free porn i think something like edonkey2000 might float your boat. in addition to multi-source downloading it generates unique ids for every file shared, meaning you could click a link in internet explorer and add a file to your download queue, meaning you can visit the adult sections of sites like sharereactor.com for entire fucking gigantic indexes of free porn availiable on the network. still though, what's this business with people getting arrested for downloading jack material on kazaa? is there any information/articles about this online? i can't imagine it happening, if the porn industry cared fuck all about people sharing shit on p2p networks i'm sure i would've heard about it by now. 0 Share this post Link to post
jute Posted August 1, 2003 so i'm looking for a music exclusive thing (now that i know where to get the porn). what's this soulseek all about? 0 Share this post Link to post
Liam Posted August 1, 2003 it's not technically music-exclusive (you can download anything people are willing to share), but it was originally designed as a place where fans of idm/trance and such electronic music could share mp3 files in that genre and has since evolved. what gives it strength over other networks is the community and resourcefulness, i haven't yet searched for an album or song on soulseek and came up empty-handed. and if you can't find what you're looking for you can put it on your wishlist, which will alert you when someone with the files you want logs on. handy. linky protip: share. soulseek users don't take kindly to leechers. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dingus Khan Posted August 1, 2003 I dont think the porn industry does care. If this really happened I'd say it's yet another "scare tactic" that the RIAA is employing. If you want to know more about what's going on with p2p sharing, then arm yourself with knowledge: eff.org boycott-riaa.com I'm trying to figure out if i can find a safe way to keep and use kazaa-lite. It seems like there's ways. 0 Share this post Link to post

Liam Posted August 1, 2003 good links, i've read about the eff before. there's also http://www.magnetbox.com/riaa, which has a handy search utility to see whether or not the copyright for an album is owned by an riaa-affiliated label. 0 Share this post Link to post
