limespider Posted August 5, 2003 i've set up 2 computers on a home network - 1 running XP, the other 98. i started to play doom2 in a multiplayer game but as soon as i start i get a "consistency error" which then shuts down the game. any ideas on how to fix this or what the cause is? 0 Share this post Link to post
Gherkin Posted August 5, 2003 What engine are you using? The original or any other doom engine? ZDaemon, csDoom, Doom Legacy, JDoom, ZDoom... what? 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted August 6, 2003 Doom2 doesn't run properly on XP... unless you mean Doom95 (which runs but without mouse support.) 0 Share this post Link to post
limespider Posted August 6, 2003 sorry, you're right - i've got doom95. 0 Share this post Link to post
Rellik Posted August 6, 2003 I'm biased, but of course I'd say use Legacy. It's really easy to run over a network. As long as your computers are connected, just launch legacy, start a server, and every other computer on teh network should see it fine and it's a snap to join a game in progress. 0 Share this post Link to post
Mordeth Posted August 6, 2003 Make sure you use the EXACT SAME version of Doom2 on both computers. That said, I've been told that XP handles some DOS stuff differently, leading to different game results and thus a consistency error. Try using a Windows source port (NOT doom95) instead of doom2.exe . 0 Share this post Link to post
