Can someone point the way to any Zdoom wads, good or bad?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, I'm an annoying bastard, I know, but I'm looking for any really good or any really bad zdoom wads. I've got most of the good ones and a few bad ones. Here are just a few that I have.

Temple of the Ancients, Fear the Fish, Kzdoom series, MAssmouth 1 and 2, I love both of them.

Uh, some of the really funny ones, almosts mockery-style, even though I never played it. BennyH, I used to watch the show, the only reason I liked it. :)

I wish I could remember some of the joke ones, but they're the ones by the same author as CAptain mancubus, I think. I might be wrong. Anyway, let me know if you all know any good Zdoom wads, I love em. And if you can tell me how to get UltraMarine to work, let me know. THanks.

Now, I shut up.

DAvid, the Zdoom fan

Scan the Ports folder of 3DArchives. It's a treasure trove of ZDooM levels (as well as levels for other ports). (Ignore this reply if you've already scanned the Ports folder.)

Runaway Train by Nigel 'Enjay' Rowand is one of my favorites for ZDooM.

Hey, THanks guys. Ultimate, Liscence to spell rocked, but I could never get past the part where the only dynamyte was in the cave, and you needed one apparently to get past the gate. Also, I'm glad you don't die when that count down goes to zero! ten minutes until 12 barons arrive. :)

Pm me to explain how to get out of there, I really need help...

Anyway, for the rest, thank you again.

Dark 7:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11772
and the mission pack:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11578 are both quite excellent

if you like star wars (or even if not) you may want to check out the darkest hour:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11385 and
dawn: a prelude which is its prequel: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11970

Doom Raider: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=12035
is also a very awesome map

Doomworld Forum Adventures: http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11873
isn't that great design-wise, but it's quite hilarious

buger.wad is awful (hey, you asked for bad maps too :P )
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11886

http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11843
the rtc3057 demo is quite nice

G:ONaHD is also pretty funny:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11771

Space Station Omega is excellent:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11865

Hell Factory I also liked, and it's one of the first ZDoom hubs:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=10707

Sin City is a pretty cool map too:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11278

and here's the sequel, which is also excellent:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11846

Runaway Train is quite convincing as a moving train in Doom:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11111

And here's a ZDoom Thief map by the same author (Enjay):
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=11107

Tei Tenga was on of the first mapsets to show off what
ZDoom was (and is) capable of:
http://www.doomworld.com/idgames/index.php?id=10674

phew I think I got everything ;)

Before Captain Mancubus, I made Crackers 'n tea, umbrella, and capslock. But they weren't jokes! :'(

Well anyway, my favorite Zdoom wad is still Dissolution.

If you re-read your text-file for Crackers 'n tea, I think you'll see why some people might have assumed it was a joke wad.

THank you, all of you. I will now go and download these that I don't have. I have darkest hour, I have dark 7 and the mission pack, Hell factory, loved it. And now I will grab the remaining ones I don't have. I would have checked this eariler, but I was busy getting my ass handed to me by a damaged Star Ocean 2 Cd. Stupid thing crashed at the end of a battle. Erghhh. Going to have to get the people to clean it for free. :)

David, I almost got the three eyed woman too. I think.

From the text file of the njtrain level

I had been inspired by the UT high speed level and wanted to give the illusion
of a moving train in Doom. I had only just started the map when Cyb's Btrain
death match level came out. looking at his scripts helped me work out the ratio
of wall scrolling to floor scrolling that makes them look as if they are moving
at the same speed. The second main inspiration was Level 15 (I think) from Dark
forces II. That's the one where you only have a limited time to get off a falling
ship before it crashes to the ground.

Any resemblance with the second mission of soldiers of fortune, is pure coincidence.
Demo can be downloaded here
http://www.ravensoft.com/soldier.html#
It could be that the UT level is a just a conversion of that sof mission but for me njtrain is a copy of that sof mission.

Has anyone mentioned Realm of the Lost Soul (I cant be bothered to look up the url)? That was quite good.

Um, these aren't all necessarily to the extremes of good or bad, but they're some more ZDoom wads that I didn't notice listed above.

Zort 1 - First of a series of nine (Can't be bothered to link all of them). I didn't play through them all, but they seem to be alright.
Xorg 1 - First of a series of four (Can't be bothered to link all of them). I haven't played through them all but what I saw of them I didn't like much.
KZdoom 1 - Yet another series, with 7 maps (Still can't be bothered to link all of them). Haven't played them all, but they look to be good stuff.
Biolage - This is for deathmatch so I can't really comment on how well it plays, but I like the atmosphere and effects.
Beach Head - Kinda reminds me of old arcade games. This could have been good if the gameplay weren't so off-balance.
Progress Quest Doom - Utterly pointless.
Imp Encounter: Second Edition - Remember Quake movies? This is a bit like that. And it's based on Taylor's infamous fanfic too... enough said.

Hopefully something there will interest and/or amuse you.

Edit: Oops, you said you had KZDoom already. I'll leave it on the list though.
