microsofts future??

Recommended Posts

well linux is gaining the upper hand in servers. chances are this will fallow into desktop systems. but this isnt a linux vs microsoft debate.
microsoft will, in time, loose its control over operating systems and software. if not cause of linux it will be something else. however they can stil rake in the cash in other areas.

things like
MSN
X-BOX
X-BOX live
microsoft games
various software (excludeing windows and office)
hardware (PDA's, cell phones, computers and other electronics)
PDA software
computer services
programming and programming languages
networking

this are some of the things i see microsoft getting into. and i am sure there are more.
what do u think will be microsofts future?

It doesn't work to such a great extent, but traditionally console software is only released with the manufacturer's consent ("Licensed by SEGA"). My guess is that software licensing applied to computers would fail profoundly, in practice, because there simply is no way to do it effectively.

i see the control of microsoft over operating systems at its hight now, but this is doomed. MAC is making a comeback with G4 and G5, OSX seems to have been based on unix from what i have heard. LINUX and a few unix flavors will control the server and super computer end of things and eith linux or something new will take PC/desktop and small servers.

Perhaps porn might be a good idea for microsoft, dildos anyone?? (that would be very funny, a microsoft dildo) but call it micro hard or big hard, macro-hard.

Hello ibrator!

Now we just need a compatable FleshLight clone and some driver software, and online communication will hit a whole new level.

Back on topic, Microsoft's domination of the industry will slip eventually. Unfortunately, without a common OS base, it'll be harder to write and/or find software that everyone can use. So either someone will take MS's place as the unifying/monopolistic factor running the industry, or maybe some governing body (ANSI, perhaps) will have to create and maintain a standard OS base.

I think Microsoft's hold on the computer market will start to slip pretty drastically if things like msblast.exe continue to be created. I feel pretty goddamned ripped off if i'm buying a 2-300 $ OS that a fucking hacker can shitcan so easily. I know little of linux, and i doubt i'll ever move to a mac...but microsoft better start making things that arent shit.

Micro$oft won't have a future because it wasn't supposed to have a past.

I don't know or care enough to speculate about MS's future, but I will say a few things. Linux has got a long long way to before it will be a practical desktop system for everyone. Aside from the inherent complexity of some versions, it just doesn't have the hardware reach Windows does. I've tried four different distributions on three different computers over the last year or so and all have failed in ways ranging from picking up hardware to the setup program locking up totally.

OS X is a good operating system, far far superior to OS 9 (Motto: What'll it be? Suicide inducing gray or eye searingly bright colors no one in their right mind will ever use?). I use it at work and it does the job, but it's got a long way to go. I still get more crashes with OS X software than Windows XP (probably once every two days vs almost never on XP) though the OS itself never crashes, and finding a decent web browser is amazingly difficult (I finally settled on Mozilla offshoot Camino).

Switching from Windows to OS X is the computer equivalent of trying to run with your feet loosely tied together. OS X's famous ease of use comes from simplicity, not good design (some may argue it's the same thing, but I disagree). It may work for some, but I much prefer the comparitively sophisticated options provided by Windows XP.

I laugh when people use OS X's lack of virii in an attempt to get people to switch. Guess what'll happen if everyone out there decides to switch? The virus writers will switch too.

I've been working with computers for over a decade and only gotten one virus. People need to learn that computers don't "just work". They never have and never will. Just like a car or any other sophisticated piece of equipment, they need to be maintained. To expect software as complex as Windows XP, which has to perform as best as possible on millions of different and unpredictable computer configurations and circumstances, to function without problems is understandable but incredibly naive.

Alarmed agents of Microsoft sprang into high gear in June after a surprising quote appeared in Nature magazine from an official of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The official said that the Switzerland-based group of about 180 nations, which promotes intellectual-property rights and standards around the globe, was intrigued by the growth of the open-source movement and welcomed the idea of a meeting devoted to open-source's place in the intellectual-property landscape. "In short order, lobbyists from Microsoft-funded trade groups were pushing officials at the State Department and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to squelch the meeting."
