This sucks

Recommended Posts

When will they realize people would not buy the cds? They just get music because it's free, not because they wanted to buy it and finally decided they'd better steal it... or worse, download it, burn it and sell the copies.

And now, they strike a 12 year old? What the flying fuck? Hey, money makers, produce real artists, lower the price of your cds and stop pretending your business is collapsing: some of us can actually read financial reports.

Fucktards.

When reporters visited teh apartment last night, Brianna — who her mom says is an honors student — was helping her brother with his homework.

Bullshit! This girl is coming from a family who paid money for regular Kazaa.

Oh, and almost all of the MP3s on my computer were ripped from CDs that I purchased and own. However, usually I will get a couple MP3s from an artist, and if I like the songs, I will buy their CD.

I am sick of people and their arguments for not buying CDs. If you like an artist's music, support the artist so that they can make more music for you.

They're not (yet) coming after you for downloading music, only for sharing it.

greedy capatalist pigs! just kidding, sort of.

the days of record sales is over. its the sign of the times and technology. ironicaly the world is slowly becoming more socialist due to the internet and such technologies. freedom of information is the future. i see profit more in concerts, art, shirts, and in some services like raphsody (we sell it at work)
anyway those in RIAA need beat to death with bats. how rich do u need to be. this really seperates the sell outs and the real artists.

I agree. Yet another journalist using the "innocent child caught up in the cruel system" angle. Quick, throw some abused puppy dogs in to really get the public sympathy.

Oh! Is that not what sucked?

stealing anything is wrong no matter how you look at it. there may be a level of 'wrongness', but everyone who uses file-sharing P2P programs knows what they are doing.

Yes, and I know perfectly well that I'm doing totally right when I'm downloading music.

Yes. I'll always download the free music because there'll always be people out there who are willing to [i]pay[/i for it.

I download unfree music, and I'm doing the right thing.

If they actualy go through with this particular lawsuit, that's just going to be fucked up.

When reporters visited teh apartment last night, Brianna — who her mom says is an honors student — was helping her brother with his homework.

Yeah, all 12 year olds should be immune from prosecution. Especially if they help their brothers with their homework.

Sometimes I wish Napster had never been created and started all this shit, but I suppose it was inevitable.

Corporations suck.

Does talking about music downloads on the forum count as warez talk?

Hmm, well I think its a bit harsh to sue someone at such an age. The thing is the companys do it as if they desperately need money. It would make more sense to be after where the distrubting all started. But oh well, as long as I wear a cloak and paper bag, I am unknown! :D

...and the RIAA searches for the only one in the city wearing a cloak and paper bag...

How did they find out who was file sharing?

My belief is that the methods they used to track the people's file-sharing habits fall under HACKING, which, if I'm not mistaken, is considered an act of TERRORISM under the Patriot Act. Woohoo, looks like the Patriot Act finally comes through for the little guy. :P

Find a lawyer who can convince a court that the RIAA's evidence was obtained illegally and you WILL be FULLY IMMUNE in a US court. Perhaps you can even counter-sue RIAA for hacking you.

Yes. Anyone offering, asking for or linking to music warez can expect something nasty to happen. Just talking about the phenomenon surely isn't against forum rules though.

Anyway, I'm merging this with the other relevant thread. No, on second thoughts I'll close it, since it seems to be turning very rapidly to shit. [edit]OK, reopened by request. Any chance of a few on-topic posts? ;)[/edit]

I've merged your post to this other one, and reopened this thread, since this is obviously a hot topic around here.

$110,700,000 for me, then. That is, if they're counting non-independent stuff, like stuff from artists that allow downloading of their MP3's right from their official website or MP3's you encode yourself of sound/music that you created yourself. If not, I'd probably only owe them about 3/4 of that. Hahaha, "only."

The RIAA's going too damn far.

why $150,000 per mp3? ffs, a song on Apple's new mp3 service is 99 cents each.

RIAA = full of idiots.

Ichor is right, this is a hot topic.
