strengthen gun rights? That mean it's more legal to blow people away or more illegal to own a hand-cannon or what?

the latter. hell if i care what people have. if someone wants to kill someone they'll find a way. and there will be consequences for it.

Will they remove bans on theft, murder and rape too?

of course not. we only oppose directly victimless 'crimes', such as not buckling your seatbelt, smoking marijuana, gambling, etc.

Crashes are even more deadly without seatbelts, people will abuse narijuana no matter if it's legal or not, gambling breeds greed which breeds polititians which breeds corruption which leads to the dallas cowboys. :P

i don't care if it leads to more car crashes, people should have the right to do whatever they want to themselves. i should mention we're also for legalizing suicide. since people will smoke marijuana whether it's legal or not, it should definitely be legal. and i don't care what gambling might breed, people should have the right to risk their money however they choose to do so.

In all honesty, mairjuana by itself is not at all addicting, despite what high school health class textbooks say.

Health class doesn't mean that it's biologically addicting like nicotine, it means that it can be psychologically addicting.

I like libertarians because I'm basically a conservative who doesn't agree with modernity's use of technology or the direction global society is heading. I don't think it's sustainable.

If I felt that 80% of my countrymen weren't feckless morons, libertarian is the direction I'd follow. However as they are, and I am, ultimately, a realist, I have to follow a philosophy that takes a sterner attitude with the public.

There are also complications. Take that seat-belt clause. At 40mph, in a frontal collision, if a passenger in the rear isn't wearing his or her seatbelt they are likely to cause serious injury to the person in front, possibly even kill them. It is a fact of life that there always comes a time where you have to make a law which impinges upon a persons freedom in order to do more good, by the test of utility, than is otherwise lost, for countless others, and as much as I love personal freedom I accept that that is always the reasonable and right thing to do. The problem is that the balance is rarely achieved by governments, to the extent that in Britain we now have what could only be called a nanny state, a product of poor socialism.

I doubt it. We hate everything that's not a redneck or a sheep here in Texas.

Ralph Nader is Green party. Their ideals are very different from the Libertarian party, AFAIK.

I never knew the green party splintered from the libertarian pary. Their veiws are a bit too different for me to believe that. But yes, Ralph Nader is the one who got us all wearing seatbelts. What the Hell is so abhorrent about seatbelts that you wouldn't want to wear them anyway?

I hate wearing them because they help save lives, and that is SO embarassing around my friends.

i don't believe in forcing anyone to do anything that only effects that person, whether or not most people find them perfectly comfortable. government shouldn't be making people's personal safety decisions for them.

and i seriously doubt the green party is a splinter off the libertarian party, since afaik we disagree on most everything.

Are you sure? I've had plenty of people tell me that they voted Libertarian, but then I said to them, "Ummmm, I thought you voted Green." They then enlighten me about Green being splintered from Libertarian.

Anywho, I frankly don't give a flying monkey's ass who's in which party, so long as I know who stands for what and vote for the right person. My voter registration is labeled as undeclared, and I plan to keep it that way.

Biggest voting tip of all: NEVER vote straight ticket!

i don't. in oregon we have a voter's pamphlet that explains a candidates positions on several issues, and i make my decisions completely based on that.

It's hard being a moderate; many accuse me of being a "bandwagon" type of guy who doesn't have a clue as to what's going on, when in fact that couldn't ve any further from the truth. The fact of the matter is, simply speaking, I stand firmly liberal on some policies (such as gay rights) and firmly conservative on others (such as the right to bear arms).[/troll]
