Ultraviolet Posted November 10, 2003 As recently as a decade ago it would have seemed ridiculous to predict that the US would be in the state it is currently in. We've got broadened police power, economically motivated war (nothing new, but getting more common), and a whole bunch of general stupidity running rampant (also nothing new, but getting worse it seems). Let's make a few predictions now along this same vein. I imagine these will be pretty far-fetched, but with time I'm sure they'll all seem a lot easier to swallow. I predict that, like hacking, more not-so-high-profile crimes will be re-classified as acts of terrorism and be punishable as such. I predict that it will start with re-classifying all acts of violence, and eventually reach things like tax fraud (unless you are a friend of the administration, of course). 0 Share this post Link to post
sargebaldy Posted November 10, 2003 the us gov't will start trying to nationalize some industries (such as airlines). i'll outlive new york city. pakistani-indian nuclear war anyone? 0 Share this post Link to post
Vile Posted November 10, 2003 WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH Well, that's pretty grim, but the more the powers that be start to become comfortable with the idea that we had a chance at freedom, but as the rotten core of humanity exploits these freedoms, the whole will continue to be punished... well, look out for the thought police. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ultraviolet Posted November 10, 2003 Baldy: The government already subsidizes agriculture and industry, so what you said isn't all that far-out either. Can you explain some reasoning behind a Pakistan-Indian nuclear war? As far as the survival of NYC goes... I've got people I care about there, so uh... damn. It's hard to explain to people that in these times they really should move to lower-profile, less metropolitan places where, if necessary, they won't get killed in traffic and riots if they should be forced to evacuate. 0 Share this post Link to post
sargebaldy Posted November 10, 2003 i dunno about the last one. all i know is they both have them, and there's a lot of tension on both sides. kind of a miniature cold war. who knows, maybe something small could set off something far larger. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted November 10, 2003 The only positive outcome I can see would involve radical change in the government. 0 Share this post Link to post

Lord FlatHead Posted November 10, 2003 1984 quotes are too easy, and I hate George Orwell. In ten years ? I don't see any radical changes ahead - just escalation of current conflicts, coupled with more stupid trends, more stupid people and more stupid violence. I see the end coming... I see death. Tonight the fate of both worlds will be in your hands... or in his. 0 Share this post Link to post

It's a bit off-topic, but this reminds me that before the Cold War ended, people might have viewed Norfolk as one of the safer parts of England (it's a relatively sparsely populated rural area). However, it turns out that it was one of the first places in Britain that would have been targeted in a Soviet nuclear strike. Source. 0 Share this post Link to post

IMJack Posted November 10, 2003 Splinter group takes advantage of American propensity to be the world's police force. American troops are drawn into a war carefully designed to become a quagmire and a media nightmare, to discredit the government. Plan fails, triggering the second American Civil War. America survives, but loses all credit and ceases to be the power that drives the world. AN unknown party sets off a nuclear weapon in Jerusalem. Protestant pilgrims from the American South seize power and declare the combined area of Israel and Pakistan to be the Christian nation of Canaan and orders all Jews and Muslims out. The West Bank becomes a three-way religious mosh pit; the current situation looks like a friendly football riot in comparison. Independant military companies go public. The world settles into a stable anarchy with a mercenary economy. 0 Share this post Link to post
Fletcher` Posted November 10, 2003 Due to secret military genetics engineering, the human population will slowly be transformed into furries. This'll happen sometime within the next 100 years in an alternate universe, causing a cease to racism, and hate because of it. Relative harmony will ensue. This universe will simply implode for having such stupid humans. It doesn't like you. 0 Share this post Link to post

WTF...all of that was in my plans to take over the world back in the day. Then I scrapped those plans when I realized I didn't want the world anyway.Ravage said:lots of crap That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. 0 Share this post Link to post
darknation Posted November 10, 2003 the furries will then all turn homogay, thus causing the extinction of the human race. The last two fags on the planet will be bumming each other into unconciousness when one of them looks up and wonders 'where is everybody?' They then die of Aids and Aids inherits the earth, which is probably just as well. 0 Share this post Link to post

See the stuff going on about the "Washington-Area Sniper" guy. Terrorism is one of the charges against him. He (I'm not saying it was the guy they have in custody, because I don't know) killed people, but I seriously doubt any political motivation or conspiracy behind it. 0 Share this post Link to post

Hobo Posted November 10, 2003 Totalitarianism slowly leeches into the government, without protest, since the majority of the population is so fucking braindead and uninvolved. United States of Earth to be founded in 2020 by dubya, or some counter-part of his, world goes to hell with capitalism, blah blah blah. 0 Share this post Link to post

Grimm Posted November 11, 2003 Hacking is terrorism. Unless your definition is different than mine. Which it probably is. Either way, I don't give a damn what happenns to hackers. None of the other stuff will come true, silly rabbit. Unless Nosferatu predicted it. 'Cause he's like, magically and stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
Sharessa Posted November 11, 2003 Hacker's arent terrorists unless they are attacking the government, or they cause serious widespread damage. That MSblast worm only hit retards who didn't update their stuff. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ultraviolet Posted November 11, 2003 Nosferatu is a vampire. Nostradamus is... questionable, but the name you were actually looking for. Hacking isn't terrorism in itself. If I hacked my dad's computer to get screenshots of his porn stash and blackmailed him with it, it may be not very nice, but it isn't terrorism. 0 Share this post Link to post
