Hardcore music

Recommended Posts

I'm curious as to how many people here listen to hardcore/gabber. I've been listening to my Hardcore For The Headstrong cd alot lately (umm...I don't know which one I have), and I'm taking a large interest in it. Anyone have some good suggestions as to good hardcore tracks? I like Omar Santana and Da Predator, and specifically the song "Omar, F** It Up Kid".

And is it just me, or would this be a good style of music for a videogame where you need to get the player's adrenaline pumping?

For those of you who don't know what hardcore/gabber sounds like, go here and check out the 2nd two demo songs (the first is kinda boring). Pary Zone is especially good:

When I think of hard-core music, I think of the goons with the NY baseball hats and pants five sizes too big, running around doing their best Karate Kid impressions while you're trying to enjoy a show.

I listen to some hardcore, old Teque stuff mostly. I think I actually put a hardcore/industrial/trance song in a map once.

Hehe, the makers of PSX Doom had your sentiments, one of the redbook tracks (Club Doom) is a gabber tune by DJ Skinhead. ^_^

Let's see, I love gabber and industrial and that whole mess of electronic music, my personal favorites out of all of them being KMFDM. I mostly stick towards Metropolis Records stuff, since that is the best industrial you can find. As for gabber, it's hard to find good gabber and with the RIAA being fucktards you can't download any...

You'd be surprized what's out there, a lot of bands can't get signed to Metropolis if they show too much trance in their mix or a glimmer of upbeat melody. heh. Seriously, Metropolis has a great library but Iv'e been listening to a lot of progressive, solo heavy electronic music. It's too bad metropolis lacks a lot of that.

I had my gabber period when I was about 16. Back then gabber, or hardcore house (whatever you wanna call it) was really in bloom in the Netherlands. It's making it's comeback now. I still listen to it every now and then to bring back old memories.

You're mad. Neither Skinny Puppy, ohGr, Coil, nor Das Ich are on Metropolis! Though I think c17h19no3 is, so that's cool.

Ok, here's my question: How did industrial come into a thread about hardcore? I don't see where they're all that related.

well, i gave you a gabber suggestion, if it helps.

hey, cool - i've been into hardcore music for a while now. although a lot of it is really bad, there are some cool new genres coming around (trancecore and freeform) that are quite interesting. sonicfury.net has some free mixes by dj cloudskipper and spree for download (they're really good djs). di.fm has a streaming hardcore radio station which is also pretty good; unfortunately, the content manager is dj silver, who also runs happyhardcore.com - the content tends to be all happy, and if you're looking for darkcore or any kind of gabber, good luck. (he does play upfront and freeform sometimes)

oh, dj_haruko, there's this one japanese happycore track called "konomama" by misono (it's on masterwax records and only available on 12 inch). you might enjoy it :)

Well because I include gabber with industrial music, I know I shouldn't, but I do, it's all in that vein of what I'd call punk or goth electronica. And I'm just labeling everything, which we shouldn't, it's all music, and we should all enjoy it.

Also, Skinny Puppy is good, but not great. I do perfer a lot of stuff over SP.

And there is quite a lot of trancy industrial, which is okay, but Metro is heavy stuff. Although they do have a few soft groups and some not even industrial like Bunnydrums.

I don't think di.fm's hard trance station is supposed to be 'hardcore' but rather really energetic and up beat trance. At least that would make more sense when you listen to the stuff on there (which right this minute i can't stand).

hard trance isn't supposed to be hardcore, it's supposed to be hard trance :P. as a genre, hard trance tends to be more 'beat-oriented' than other kinds of trance. but, as is the case with most genres of electronic music, no one really cares.

Hmm, I'll have to try and find this one.

Oh, and I completely forgot about di.fm, which I used to go to somewhat more often in the past for the hard trance and classic techno stations. And I'll go ahead and check out DJ Cloudskipper.

Happy Hardcore is a cool genre too, and the track "Shooting Star" comes to mind (original version, not the short one on DDR). But I don't like to listen to it as much as I do gabber.

Hard trance...I would personally define it as slightly darker, harder hitting trance with a bit more grit to it. Tracks like "Inside of Me", "Drifting Away", "Time Traveler", and "The Wave" (a personal all-time favorite) come to mind, as does older DJ Micro stuff. But, I see genres a bit differently than others (I should make a thread about this in blogs...).

Getting back on topic, I also found that I DLed some stuff from DJ Gabber God from mp3.com before its demise. He was pretty good, too.

oh, sorry, you seem more like a happy hardcore kind of guy :)

dj promo, dj nosferatu, and masters of hardcore are all fun gabber artists. gabbafront.de has a nice selection of gabber downloads if you're looking for a new favourite.

by the way, di.fm just started playing hardcore for the headstrong on the hardcore channel. good timing eh :P

Because I don't know what the fuck 'Hardcore' is, and I love industrial. Since the universe revolves around me, it fell together like that. That's why.

I personaly do not think hardcore isn't really a defined genre but more of just a describing word for groups, because there are a lot of hardcores I hear about. Hardcore used to mean hard rock rap like Body Count, Biohazard, Kottonmouth Kings, then it came to mean just really heavy hard rock like Entombed and Six Feet Under, then it came to mean punk music where people scream when they sing like Zao, and now I hear from you guys it's a form of really fast bass filled techno simular to gabber. It's crazy.

hardcore is one of the... less hooky styles of dance music. i always assumed anyone using it to mean anything else was just listening to metal or punk or emo and wanted to invent a cool new name for all their music

that too.

so will you post here more if i start a lot of threads about dance music?

hardcore is the most overused term ever

it could mean good things (hardcore porn) or bad things (dance music or whatever you people like :P )
