Recommended Posts

André Majorel alerted us to the release of Yadex 1.7.0, the map editor for Unix systems running X-Windows. New in this release:

  • improved handling of superimposed objects
  • added an alternative black-on-white colour scheme
  • Doom: fixed linedef types 35, 36, 68, 70, 71, 79 and 98
  • Heretic: many linedef and sector type fixes (Barry Mead)

Yadex is pretty cool, I used it to build parts of my FreeDoom map02.

Yes, Yadex is quite nice really. I just wish it had full support for ZDoom. :)

Yadex is pretty cool, one of the best editors around I think. Don't have Linux on here right now to play around with it though :P

Good news: New version of Yadex
Bad news:The version in Debian is still only 1.5.2 so it's either "make the package up yourself" or "subvert the packaging manager"

Where?

http://www.teaser.fr/~amajorel/yadex/faq.html, near the bottom of the page. Fair point, it took me a while to find it.

Well, IIRC it was pretty easy to build it yourself (back then I tried it on SuSE 8.0 I think).

Yadex actually runs perfectly fine under Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com) as well. I haven't looked into trying to create a native Win32 version with mingw yet, but if you don't mind Cygwin, you can try it without having to use Unix.
