Doom : The Movie thread #21,704

Umm, hello? The Exorcist, The Green Mile, Valentine, 13 Ghosts, Butcher Boy, Romeo Must Die. All pretty damned violent and gory at times, all WB movies.

WB is definatly one to fuck Doom up though. Seriously. WB doesn't have a problem with gore but they do have a problem with not making films into freaking money makers.

There is something seriously wrong with any guy who doesn't like a movie which has a full-frontal nude shot of Milla Jovovich :) Hell there's something wrong with a guy who doesn't like a move with Milla Jovovich in full-stop ;)

Saying there is something seriously wrong with gay men?

Ah but Dimension also made From Dusk Till Dawn and The Crow, which many people will agree are classics, if only in a cult sense. New Line have released some real stinkers too: Dumb and Dumberer, The Wedding Singer, Wag The Dog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III, Lost In Space... I shudder at the merest thought of any of those. Particularly relevant (because it's also a Game->Movie) is New Line's atrocious Mortal Kombat. Bleh.

Oh yeah, Dimension got lucky with some films, and I primairly meant New Lines' horror division, for there are many New Line films that weren't horror that were horrible.

You simply cannot do a movie with only one character! That would be so terrible that it'd make the film a definite candidate for worst movie of all time.

Why not? Cube was filmed with 6 people. Six. That was it. No more. No less. 6. Why not one and a thousand zombies? Anyway I was thinking there could be some story line involving lost of characters, most of whom die, the few others are found alive but then later die further alienating him. By the end of the movie he's totally and utterly alone. I think it would make a much more psychological movie. Course, that's my opinion.

I'm glad this is going to be based on doom3. I hope they completely forget about the originals because as far as plot they're horrible and you all need to know the fact that they'd make a horrible movie.

evil dead 2 has only one character for about half the film and it works fantastically. it would be difficult, but not unfeasible, to create a satisfying story with only one character, in my opinion. i personally think the movie should just be an .lmp converted to film, though.

That would bore anyone not a Doom fan, and there aren't enough of us to warrent the making of a major Hollywood film. Anyway, a one and a half to two hour demo?? Even I'd get bored.

The plot was poor but it did allow for heaps of room for expansion. The whole thing about the marine being incarcerated on Mars...now that can be elaborated.

...AS dsm did in his stunning doom stories which everyone should bow down and worship, ESPECIALLY the authors of the 'real' doom novels

Or, what about they base the film on the legendary, the immortal, DOOM COMIC!

"Rip and TEAR!"

"Rip and TEAR!"

"I DO need a gun!"
"I need a BIG gun!"

It will be about this maniac who basically "rips and tears" his way through monsters with his bare hands in search of the so-called "BIG gun" so he can defeat his archnemesis: "SCARY CYBERNETIC DEMON WHO JUST STANDS STILL".

If they did the whole doom movie with one main charater (the marine) and go through all the doom levels exactly then it would be a bad ass movie and bring back a lot of memories. If they made it a nerd porn love story like the matrix I would retaliate.

It would be interesting to see how Hollywood might reinvent the original levels. More detail for sure - LOT's more detail...

That would be the most horrible movie ever. But definatly one for the b-movie people like myself. I'll just put it on my shelf next to Maximum Overdrive and Re-animator.

Be hard pressed finding a studio that would recreate the game in the movie. The game doesn't have a whole lot of realism. The might have a scene that looks just like the entrance to E1M1 though :)

games after movies or movies after games always turn out bad.....period, the only one that could have been saved is if in final fantasy if they turned it into a comedy, when someone got hurt little red numbers appeared above their heads..that would be funny.

Tim Burton would give us a whole new slant on Doom. Surrealistic Doom, anyone? I don't think he'd be appropriate at all, considering the heavy psychological twist he's given all his other films - and would no doubt bring to Doom as well. I mean, he is who he is. Don't get me wrong; it could be a very good film in it's own right, but it wouldn't be Doom. Not as we think of Doom.

On the other hand, if anyone's expecting the film to be a recreation of the experience of playing the game, they are bound to be disappointed. Imagine Doom the game of 1993 done as Daikatana was many years later (third person) and you'll see what I mean. At the movie we'll merely be bystanders watching someone else having all the fun.

A do-it-yourself movie of Doom (think interactive Machinima) could be very interesting, but it wouldn't be Doom as we know it, either - more like Half-Life, where the player can interact with the AI in subtle ways.

Somebody could do that as an experiment - or as a spoof: Imp: "Snarl! Take me to your leader, fat boy! Grunt." Player: "Who you calling fat!?" (BLAM!!) Imp: "...gurgle..." OR; Imp: "Snarl! Take me to your leader, fat boy! Grunt." Player: "Find him yourself! He's that way, down the hall, turn left, then left again. Big guy with a beard." Imp: "Thanks, human scum." It passes by, heading for the hall. Player: "Dumb bastard." (BLAM!! - Shoots the Imp in the back.) Imp: "Momma!" (Dies.) It seems we'd end up getting to the same place as we do now, but it could be a real funny trip.

BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if the movie turned out to be another "Army Of Darkness."

Hehehe, with the chainsaw and double barrel shotgun?
That could have like really bad concequences though...
"Yeah, I could have stayed in hell, I could have taken over, I could have been king, But in my own way, I am king. *grabs near by imp* Hail to the king, baby. *comence impse*"
