Linda Pierce Posted January 19, 2004 Why doesn't my mouse function with Doom/ Collectors Edition CD? And how can I get it to work? Is there a real SMART person out there who can help me. No one here at ITT TECH has the time to help me ... go figure? Thank you 0 Share this post Link to post
Darkman 4 Posted January 20, 2004 You must be using that POS DOOM95. It doesn't support a mouse for gameplay. Get ZDoom. It's like DOOM95, but MUCH better. It's on this site. Look under "Source ports". 0 Share this post Link to post

Of course it does. Get ZDoom. It's like DOOM95, but MUCH better. It's on this site. Look under "Source ports". Seeing as that page just links you to the directory where you can download the latest version, we may as well give you the direct link :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Darkman 4 Posted January 20, 2004 The mouse doesn't work on my copy of DOOM 95. 0 Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted January 20, 2004 That doesn't mean it doesn't work for anybody though, does it? I haven't used Doom '95 for many years now, but I remember the mouse worked absolutely fine. 0 Share this post Link to post
Piece_O_Mind Posted January 20, 2004 The mouse sure did work for me when I had Doom95. It doesn't take a brain and a half to check the "enable mouse input" option or whatever it's called. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted January 20, 2004 Most likely reasons mouse support will fail to work for Doom95: A) Dmouse.vxd is not present in windows/system (or Doom95's folder, I assume.) B) It's running on Windows XP or Windows 2000 (these do not support VXD files.) C) As fodders implied, a USB mouse is used. D) As Piece_O_Mind noted, the user hasn't enabled it through the launcher. 0 Share this post Link to post

Linda Pierce Posted January 20, 2004 Here is more info that might help you help me .... I'm running Window 98 I have the original shareware version of Doom95 and this works GREAT with my mouse ... It's just the Doom/Collectors Edition that DOES not. The instruction book says the software comes with mouse drivers, but obviously they don't work. I am using a PS-2 ... 3 button mouse just like in the GOOD OLD DAYS ! Yes, I know there is the screen that comes up and gives you the option to CONFIGURE the game ... but even when I do that and config to mouse ... IT DOESN'T WORK .... I'm NOT a computer wizard ... I understand some things but not all. I appreciate the responses I've been given and my intensions are to try them ALL ... I'm a DOOM geek and PROUD OF IT ... and I want my game to work with the mouse ... It's too hard to kill those damn creatures using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Thanks for your help ... keep those suggestions coming. 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted January 21, 2004 DOOM tech support continues... Linda Pierce, I'll wager that your Doom95 shareware folder includes dmouse.vxd. If you haven't already, copy that file into windows/system. The VXD is precisely a virtual device driver for the mouse. Kristian Ronge, cool. 0 Share this post Link to post
Opulent Posted January 21, 2004 There is always importing a known-good registry key for Doom95... that should also work if the files are the same on both systems. 0 Share this post Link to post
Kristian Ronge Posted January 21, 2004 myk said: Kristian Ronge, cool. Thank you. Feel free to link to it if people ask you for the .vxd ... it'll be at that same location for a *long* time. 0 Share this post Link to post
Use Posted January 21, 2004 Linda Pierce said:I am using a PS-2 ... 3 button mouse just like in the GOOD OLD DAYS ! hehe, a serial mouse would be like the good 'ol days. Then again I played Doom with the keyboard only for years. If you're using Win98 is has to be one of the aforementioned problems. I using Win98se, a USB mouse, and have Doom95. dmouse.vxd is in my \system directory and everything works great. 0 Share this post Link to post
