North Korean trainstation disaster

Many casualties in NK train crash

Two trains carrying flammable materials have exploded in a North Korean train station, resulting in a large number of casualties, South Korean media reports.

Witnesses say the explosion was the result of a collision between the two trains. Hours earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong Il passed through the station.

CNN.com

Other newsagencies reported up to 3000(!) people killed. This is a huge disaster, and we'll probably not be hearing much from it, since the North Korean government quickly shut down all telephone lines to prevent the news from spreading.

Sounds like western propaganda BS to me. When is the last time you heard anything positive about North Korea... a yes: NEVER...

People getting killed in an accident is awful, using it for propaganda makes it only worse...

What good news do you think there is? Sounds like standard a liberal bs reply. Plus it's cnn, they try not to make other countries look bad as much as possible anyway.

I share your left-wing sympathies, but now, my dear friend, you are just being a moron.

My beef with the Morth Korean political system is not that it is socialist. It is that it is a totalitarian regime. A political system where the government and it's agencies is above all criticism.

The government simply cannot be wrong. It cannot fail. It beyond all error.

Common sense might tell us that a train mishap, even if severe, is not enough to topple an ideology, it would just mean that the the train system would maybe have to go through some minor revisions.

But accepting the fact that the train system is in need of a lookover would be to accept that the responsible agencies has previously been in error and that is UNACCEPTABLE!

Little good can stem from such a climate, whatever it be avovedly communist or capitalist.

*points and laughs*

Well, I'm laughing at the government, not the people oppressed by Kim Jong IL

I think what Molotov was getting at was a situation where the US media could easily prevent sympathy for North Koreans from spreading by not making an effort to report on it.

Our reporters are willing to "embed" themselves into military troops, but a few cut phone lines and we're SOL? Right.

If I were Kim Jong Il, I would go all 9/11 with this, say its a horrible tragedy and the work of American (or South Korean, or Japanese) terrorists. Bam, instant military support.

I'm not sure it works like that...

Apparently, the main official news in North Korea today was Kim Jong Il receiving an honorary citizenship in some Mexican town.
