GTA: San Andreas

Recommended Posts

Well, since nobody else has drawn attention, I will.

Released by Rockstar:
Five years ago Carl Johnson escaped from the pressures of life in Los Santos, San Andreas...a city tearing itself apart with gang trouble, drugs and corruption. Where filmstars and millionaires do their best to avoid the dealers and gangbangers.
Now, it's the early 90s. Carl's got to go home. His mother has been murdered, his family has fallen apart and his childhood friends are all heading towards disaster.

On his return to the neighborhood, a couple of corrupt cops frame him for homicide. CJ is forced on a journey that takes him across the entire state of San Andreas, to save his family and to take control of the streets.

Put up at gamesradar.com:
So. Now we know. San Andreas is NOT Los Angeles, it's a whole state. Los Santos, on the other hand is, to all intents and purposes, LA. The game's two other cities, San Fierro and Las Venturra are based on San Francisco and Las Vegas respectively. There'll be countryside between the three main areas, each of which is roughly the same size as the whole of Vice City. Big, in other words. Overall, the game will be an incredible four to six times the size of its predecessor.
Main character Carl Johnson is going to have his work cut out. Returning to his old haunts after five years in the Liberty City slammer, and blamed by his older brother Sweet for younger bro' Brian's accidental death, he'll be making his way through an early 90's streetscape besieged by rival gangs.

The most significant gameplay changes are a new stamina meter, meaning you need to eat, and massively improved building interiors. You'll be able to commit burglary now, or run a casino in Las Venturra. If you're feeling less ambitious you can just gamble away your ill-gotten gains on the tables in LV.

Brilliantly, improved AI means you can recruit a gang, the Orange Grove Families, and drag members along on missions. Up to four people can complete a drive-by mission, for instance.

And becasue it will come out on the PS2, expect it to look like crap! yey! Seriously I hate that system so much.

Screenshot 3 however instills me with hope I'll be able to steal bikes from kids.

The early 90's was a very special time for me. But let's hope that there isn't an overabundance of rap(even though it was pretty good back then)...

No, you don't have to be a black guy. People of all races can enjoy this lovely game.

no i think he means be black in the game. i sure hope it will be 50cent you will play with. and yes i bet you a million dollars you would be able to steal bikes, and low riders, and form gangs. man, i bet this will be 100times more fune than vice city. it should be or ill be pissed.

also notice the limited draw distance. thats why i hate ps2. anytime allot of graphix are involved, the draw distance is rather shit.,

It's about damned time some screenshots have been released! It looks very cool. I hope it gets released on the Xbox or PC later on like with VIce City and GTA3.

Ah, GTA discussion on a site where people can speak proper english and dont belive bullshit rumours like "OMG IT WILL BE ALL RAP MUSIC AND U WILL PLAY AS EMINEM", well anyway, it certianly sounds interesting, having such a vast area to explore..i loved cruising the hiways of VC in the sabre turbo, this game will increase that pleasure by 6 times hehe, as well as all the other stuff to do like robbin houses (saw a shot showing it from a magazine scan), the improved lighting system and better AI (watch the haitains and cubans stand right in front of each other blasting away in vice heh), its gonna be one amazing game..defintley waiting for the PC version this time though, im not gonna buy the PS2 one then have to suffer grainy, short sighted visuals while i wait for the proper release

In comparison to what? The Gamecube and XBOX have it beat on all levels

Fuck that. I'm not getting into a PS2 Vs Whatever debate. I'll just say that I have yet to regert buying a PS2 over the other 2.

I myself never really liked the GTA series. The first one I played was GTA 3, and I spent about an hour taking turns with my brother beating old people and getting arrested. That was the only time I played it. We've had Vice City on PS2 since it first came out, but I haven't even played it once, it just doesn't seem to appeal to me. :D

the gta games were never about graphics though, they were always about having a shitload of fun. Besides the PC version will look way better than the PS2 version (as was the case with VC and to a lesser extent GTA3). I'll be looking forward to this, yes indeed.

Those screenshots aren't that good. They could improve the graphics a lot more than that.

That's an unfortunate side effect of being crammed onto the Playstation 2. I don't like the PS2, but I respect what they manage to do with it sometimes. I mean, San Andreas is a whole fucking state this time :|. The city also looks decent. Far better looking than Vice City and Vice looked spectacular at points, especially in a chopper. I'm fully looking forward to seeing San Andreas on PC, that will be amazing. I'd ask for a complete model/character texture overhaul for the PC version though, because honestly I never liked cruising through GTA3/Vice and running over characters that looked like they belonged in quake :| I really don't expect it to happen though.

I have a friend who mostly play PS2 games - he likes it because the games you can get for that system are pretty good (his opinion anyways).

So I guess it's nice for him that this baby is coming out for PS2.

Wait isn't Scuba Steve the guy who purposely makes 128x128 images with like 16 colors?

The first screenshot I see looks like a good battlescene.
The second one looks like....Eddie Murphy?
And the guy in the third is wearing some really fucked up undies.

I'm guessing the guy in the second shot could possibly be Carl Johnston, the main character himself. I guess this because the main characters in the GTA game normally have a higher detail level than the average cannon fodder that populate the streets. Also considering the game actually looks alot more detailed than Vice City even though it's supposedly the same engine. I mean that car behind him has spokes in the tires compared to the the textures used in Vice.

Looks great to me, the motorbikes/helicopters in Vice city were cool and I can't wait to see what San Andreas has in store.

I don't think they want to improve graphics, it would probably slow down game performance.
