Deathmatcher Posted May 16, 2004 Another important question: Does the flashlight run out of energy and you have to pick up energy cells for it? Or does it come with an unlimited supply? 0 Share this post Link to post

S1lent Posted May 17, 2004 I guess it might run out of energy. If it didn't it would take away from the "scare factor" of the game. I mean come one, it would be a great touch if you were walking down a pitch black hallway swarming with imps and all of the sudden your flashlight runs out of juice :-) 0 Share this post Link to post
Arioch Posted May 17, 2004 What kind of dinky flashlight big enough to be a melee weapon is going to last you only 3 minutes? (number out of ass, here) Any decent incandescent or halogen flash nowadays will last way longer than most FPS player lighting, and fluorescents will last even longer than that. 0 Share this post Link to post

WTF? thats the second time(the first being e3 last year) we've seen a lump of flesh stuck to the chaingun. what gives? 0 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted May 18, 2004 LOl lump of flesh? Doesn´t look like flesh to me, but I don´t know what else it should be. Kinda strange, wouldn´t an attachment like this disturb the rotation of the barrels? BTW, it sucks that the chaingun still isn´t weilded like a minigun with a grip on the top. 0 Share this post Link to post
dsm Posted May 18, 2004 Tetzlaff said:BTW, it sucks that the chaingun still isn´t weilded like a minigun with a grip on the top. It probably is - the hand is just further back out of sight. Still, I'd have preferred that his hand was visibly holding a grip on top (sorta like with the Q2 BFG). On the other hand, this is a minor nitpick detail (along with the doomguy not wearing gloves) and it really won't matter once you play the game. I'm more concerned about whether the chaingun's top firing rate is fast, it sounds cool (and I think its firing sounds are nice and beefy - if only it fires faster than in the trailer), complete with an awesome whirring sound (the sound the commando's chaingun in the E3 2002 demo made was perfect - if it sounds like it, or similar, I know I'll be pleased). So far I think the gun looks awesome (I especially think it looks sexy with the well-polished, shiny metal barrels :-P). chaingunse... 0 Share this post Link to post
Goliath Posted May 23, 2004 Im pretty sure that the guns can hold a lot more ammo that just 300. Look at this....http://www.doomworld.com/php/screenie.php?dir=/doom3_031904/ It holds 900 or something. 0 Share this post Link to post
Ultraviolet Posted May 23, 2004 Then what does the 36 refer to? Clip content? 0 Share this post Link to post
Tetzlaff Posted May 23, 2004 Yes, the smaller number is probably the clip count. It could also be ammo for an attached grenadelauncher but I never heard about alternate fire modes for the Doom3 weapons ;) 900 can not be a real number though, the guy who was taking the screenshot surely uses a "give ammo" cheat. 900 would be rediculous, I think 200 bullets will be the max. 0 Share this post Link to post

On the other hand, if the machinegun shares ammo with the chaingun, it wouldn't be too ridiculous. Hopefully, the chaingun can hold around 1000 rounds - it'd suck if it can only hold 300 or 400 rounds, because it'll burn right through them in no time. 0 Share this post Link to post
TH-555 Posted May 24, 2004 I could see the machine gun and pistol sharing ammo, but having three guns use the same ammo, two of which being machine-gun-like seems knida silly to me. the pistol for ammo conservation, but having two guns do that is like... wierd. especially a mahine gun, to save ammo? ahaha.. 0 Share this post Link to post
Goliath Posted May 25, 2004 I dont think that it will be that hard to use the per pixel shot direction simply because other games that were faster such as SOFII use it and I didn't think that it was all that hard in fact it really added to the game. Also the skill level you played on (im assuming that there are skill levels) was it hard or did you find it boring and same old thing killing enemies to easy? I know Doom gets really boring playing on "Don't hurt me im a p&%%y" ;) 0 Share this post Link to post

I don't believe that SOFII really uses a per-poly hit detection! I didn't play it, but Doom3 really brings a totally new technique with this. The SOF-Series only used a very rough subdivision between the different limps, as opposed to a true per-poly detection, where you can literally miss an opponent by shooting under his arm. 0 Share this post Link to post
999cop Posted May 25, 2004 There is one thing I am unsure about from what I just saw in the trailer. Is that shotgun the same as the one that was shown at the last E3? 0 Share this post Link to post

You never played it, well then you wouldn't Know that because you really did miss when you shot off by just a little. Sense the game use humans which dont usally fail in a shooting position I couldn't tell you bout missing under the arm but you can miss his head with the sniper and shoot between the legs. Im not arguing with you that doom3 will take it to a new level but SOFII (only the second)and other games alike have been using this system and it isn't all that hard. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deathmatcher Posted May 25, 2004 Ok, I think we have to wait and see. I just remember the Quakecon-attendants who wrote about how surprisingly hard it was sometimes, to hit the opponent (without mentioning SOF2) 0 Share this post Link to post

dsm Posted May 27, 2004 TH-555 said:no, its the one from the xbox version, see first xbox screenshot. the two versions have different shotguns. Unlikely. It's likely that the shotgun shown in the 2003 trailer is an old version, which has since been changed. Some time ago, there was a "shot" of four of Doom 3's weapons from the PC version; the chainsaw, the pistol, the shotgun and the plasma rifle. The dimensions and shape of the shotgun in that shot corresponded accurately to the shotgun shown in the first Xbox screenshot and subsequently in this Xbox trailer. It is likely that the PC shotgun model will look better, but the design, I'm sure, is unchanged from the XBox version - it will still have that "lump" on top of its barrel. 0 Share this post Link to post
Deathmatcher Posted May 28, 2004 Btw, I really hope there is a chainsaw as a player weapon in the game. So far, all we've seen from the chainsaw was from this "shot of four" and the one being wielded by the zombie. 0 Share this post Link to post

EDIT: OK, so its not really xbox green, its more like the armor color, so maybe im wrong. 0 Share this post Link to post
