The game has got to be one of the dumber bastardizations. The narrator's name was not Jack. His real name is never given and the book makes a joke of it. But besides that, for the fights of him vs Tyler that game should have a replay option where you see what's really happening - one guy beating the crap out of himself.

The book says "I am Joe's..." anyway. They had to change it for the movie though because there was actualy a Reader's Digest series of articles called "I Am Joe's...".
