Manc Posted July 13, 2004 As far as a blcoker goes, I haven't seen any good ones, but for a popup blocker, either get The Google Toolbar for IE or get a more secure browser. 0 Share this post Link to post

SyntherAugustus Posted July 13, 2004 firefox acts like IE but it's alot more secure. 0 Share this post Link to post
Endureth Posted July 13, 2004 I use Norton. A friend of mine uses AVG and he swears by it. AVG is apparantly free but I don't know where to get it. -E 0 Share this post Link to post
Mivalekan Posted July 13, 2004 I use Firefox. I think it does its popup blocking job pretty well. Haven't had a popup since I got it. (about 3 days ago) :) 0 Share this post Link to post
Infinite Ammunition Posted July 13, 2004 Mozilla has the ability to block popups right out of the box, though IIRC you have to see the popup you want blocked again then set it to block that one, haven't had popups in a while so I wouldn't remember. 0 Share this post Link to post
Lobo Posted July 13, 2004 Why do people say Firefox is so secure? I've run it through some of the usual dodgy tests and got my self infected just as I did with IE. 0 Share this post Link to post

Most spyware/adware exploits rely on IE's activex control system, which firefox does not support. I have never heard of a case where people became infected with spyware/adware from using firefox. You'd have to purposely consent to it, in which case that's your own fault for accepting it. What sort of "tests" did you run if I may ask? 0 Share this post Link to post
Tobester Posted July 13, 2004 Christ, is it just me or is this the 2nd dozenth thread on this subject? What's so hard about 1) Not using IE or 2) Installing Google Toolbar (if you like your IE) I don't have popup problems. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bloodshedder Posted July 13, 2004 If there's one thing no software can cure, it's user stupidity. 0 Share this post Link to post

Because viruses don't need a browser to infect you. They often just need to scan your machine via internet. 0 Share this post Link to post

Sephiroth Posted July 14, 2004 i would say mozilla and its varients. i have not had anything get thru on it. same here with firefox/mozilla and spyware they are not entirely immune but most everythign targets exploits in IE. i used "real word" test, mainly people who are too fucking stupid to know better. these being my brother, a neighbor lady, and my dad. my dad infected his computer horribly, in 1 hour. useing IE to search for free porn and whore houses. same with brother. the neighbor lady would click anything and everything that came up so i install mozilla needless to say there have been NO online spyware/adware infections thru websites. nor has she said anything about issues with popups. infact the only spyware that she had was from her grandson installing AIM. same results with dad and brother. it isn't perfect and i am in no way saying it is. It cuts down alot of these issues that you get with IE. IE is a good browser but there is better shit out now that is updated more. if you want to cut down problems i would strongly sudgest a visti to http://www.mozilla.org/ 0 Share this post Link to post
