I have a friend in Germany that's never played an id game though he says he'd like to, he thinks the screenies look cool. He'll be thrilled to hear this.

I even offered to mail him a copy of RtCW once but he refused for fear of being caught with it.

Yep, Wolfenstien because of the Nazi imagery, Doom cause it was violent, and one level used to have a swastika in, Amd Doom 2 cause it was violent and had wolfenstien-derived secret levels

It amuses me that German TV, when i could get it on sky, used to fill up its ad breaks with chatline commercials with actual porn in them after about 10:00, this isnt like the slightly-raunchy chatline ads seen in britian, i mean real porn, you saw it going in and everything!, and yet the ban a game that features shooting pixellated mutants in hell.

But then again, more western countries seem to be more relaxed towards violence than sex, so maybe germany has got something right..now all we need is a culture that loves cheesy fake ultra-violence and porn at the same time

Wrong, there is a big difference between banned games and "indexed" games in Germany. Wolfenstein is the only game (among other Nazi relevant titles) that is banned, because of the Nazi imagery. All other games (Doom, Quake etc) are only indexed, which means everyone above the age of 18 can legally purchase them. And since Germany is Europes biggest market for PC games, those games have always been very popular, despite the index rating.

Wrong, too. Seeing "it going in" is not allowed on German Free-TV. Maybe it was so shocking compared to US restrictions.

German Free-TV.

Ah right, what are the RTL channels?, also maybe i exaggerated, you could see the 'opening', but the camera was positined so you couldnt really see what was going in, just something was, and that was the 'best' one anyway, a lot of them where more tame (but still much more pornographic than anything seen in britian)

Welcome to Holland

Heh, i'd go there if it wasnt full of stoned british hoologans...

Extremely debatable.

Debatable why? I think it´s true, and it wouldn´t be surprising. Don´t know how to prove it though :)

Ever since 2001, Britain has officially been ranked the third largest market for company games in the world, after the U.S. and Japan.

France is ranked third in terms of the average amount of money games developers/publishers native to the country earn, with the U.S. and Japan again being first and second.

Germany wants to get into the market. See if it goes big in their country...which it will being that they haven't played a real game for a while means that the goverment can tax the shit out of it so don't expect it to run under 100 euros in Germany...The only reason im even saying this is because my step mom used to live in germany and was telling me about it the other day.
