Skippii Posted July 30, 2004 I was trying to decide which part of my system to upgrade first, and it occured to me that maybe it won't run at all on Win ME. Will I have to upgrade to XP to play it? 0 Share this post Link to post

Caco-Puff Posted July 30, 2004 I belive it'll only run on 2000 and XP,It'd probably crash every 5 minutes on ME anyways. 0 Share this post Link to post
Trilinear Posted July 30, 2004 This has been discussed previously here: http://www.doomworld.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25597 I think the general opinion is that it will not run on any Windows 9x-based operating system (95, 98, 98SE and Me). Probably due to better memory management in 2000 and XP (because Doom III is very resource-hungry). 0 Share this post Link to post

If it doesnt run on ME (which i, sadly, have) , i'll play it on my downstairs PC which has XP and wait for the linux version to be released. Easy as pie. Or i can find someone who has XP and lend it fom them. 0 Share this post Link to post

Will I have to upgrade to XP to play it? If you've been reading the Doom3 news and this forum you would see that Doom3 will ONLY run on Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Cut and dry right from Id's mouth. Not to say that some dolt will try to run it or try to make it run on win98 or ME. 0 Share this post Link to post
NiGHTMARE Posted July 30, 2004 2000 and XP are the only Windows operating systems Doom 3 will "officially" run in, likely because they're the only two Activision had their testers use. Doom 3 may well run absolutely fine in '98 and/or ME, but Activion just want to cover their backs in case it doesn't. So my advice is to wait and see. If it works, great. If it doesn't, use Linux or XP. Plus, someone's bound to try making an unofficial patch so Doom 3 does run in '98/ME (it happened with Thief 3 after all). 0 Share this post Link to post
Epistax Posted July 30, 2004 Does calculator work on Windows ME? No, seriously. Every time I hit log I see a BSOD. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
TwiNCannoN Posted July 30, 2004 I installed XP on my father's machine that used to have ME a couple months ago. He still thanks me every day. 0 Share this post Link to post
Tyockell Posted July 30, 2004 I really havent had any problems with ME personaly. 0 Share this post Link to post
Skippii Posted July 30, 2004 Thanks for that link, I did a search for the subject but couldn't find any posts about it. I never upgraded to XP because I never had any need to, as everything always worked fine for me, so I figured, why spend the extra money? I knew Doom wasn't recommended for ME, but I thought maybe it would still work with it anyway, since I'd never read specifically that it would not work with it. 0 Share this post Link to post

Caco-Puff Posted July 30, 2004 My computer came with Windows ME,Last year or so I installed Windows 2000.Wow I thought,This is running way better then it was on ME.Then a few days I noticed a small little sticker on the front of my case (DESIGNED TO RUN ON WINDOWS 2000).That combined with the fact that when I emailed "Dell's award winning tech support" asking why my PS/2 Keyboard wouldn't work when I started the computer in DOS,I got an email back from a computer telling me that it deteacted the word keyboard in my email,And it suggested that I make sure my keyboard was plugged in and such and that I had the latest drivers,And if that didnt work it told me to reset my BIOS.Then I emailed them with the link provided saying that those solutions hadn't/wouldn't solve my problem,And I've never gotten an email to this day. And thats why I hate Dell. 0 Share this post Link to post
