Bid Posted August 3, 2004 I am using an AMD 3200+ XP on a nForce 2 MOBO and a RADEON 9800 PRO, all with the latest drivers. The game runs fine with awsome graphics, but I get a strange static (like TV static) when I play the game. I should mention that I have nothing overlocked and changing the settings from high to medium or low does not help. Pictures of strange Static: http://www.citlink.net/~biditm/d3_static1.jpg http://www.citlink.net/~biditm/d3_static2.jpg Here are my Doom 3 settings: http://www.citlink.net/~biditm/D3_Settings1.jpg http://www.citlink.net/~biditm/D3_Settings2.jpg 0 Share this post Link to post
r3pp Posted August 3, 2004 Got the same thing with lesser drivers. Seeing what u get, I still don't need updating... To the rest: it's litarally tv static, not just dots that stay in one place. After a while, it gets worse. After a while more, my computer crashes. I guess it's heat or something... 0 Share this post Link to post
alexz721 Posted August 3, 2004 Yes, that error has been linked to overheating. There could be other reasons as well, but for now, try using better methods of cooling for your case, especially the video card, and/or try underclocking a little. 0 Share this post Link to post
r3pp Posted August 3, 2004 Thanks, Ill try to put my case open and shoot my desk fan up there. :D 0 Share this post Link to post

alexz721 Posted August 3, 2004 You don't have to be overclocking for computer parts to overheat. 0 Share this post Link to post
Crisis King Posted August 3, 2004 Ouch man I feel sorry for you, that must suck. I've got a 9800pro but I see this thin vertical line to the left of the screen that is just black squares. They dissapear after then comeback etc... etc... , but not as bad as your problem! 0 Share this post Link to post
FantomBlu Posted August 5, 2004 HI there I was having a similar problem. The only thing I could find to fix it was using rage3d tweaker and UNDERclocking my core speed by 7-12 MHz. I get little if no dots now. Hope that helps 0 Share this post Link to post
alexz721 Posted August 5, 2004 Did you try the newest ATI beta Catalyst 4.9 drivers? They aren't supported yet until the official drivers are released, but you may want to give them a try. http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4547.html 0 Share this post Link to post
DrDork Posted August 5, 2004 I have tried the 4.9 beta driver, and it did not solve the snow problem with a 9800XT. I still have to underclock the card several MHz in order to get rid of it. However, with the new driver I get some black dots here and there after playing a while. Not sure if it is a side effect of underclocking, or if the OpenGL library in the driver is buggy. 0 Share this post Link to post
Combustable Posted August 5, 2004 maybe your cooling system needs work? Clean it or something? 0 Share this post Link to post
DrDork Posted August 5, 2004 Combustable said:maybe your cooling system needs work? Clean it or something? I am not so sure. I have an external temperature monitor which I put in between the heat sink. The card then idles at 50C and hits 60C whenever I play a game. Now, Doom 3 is the only one of my games which I experience this problem with -- so I am not so sure that the problem is over-heating. 0 Share this post Link to post
