Question about video settings

Recommended Posts

Hey everybody,
Just got a copy of Doom 3 at my local Best Buy and got it running all nice and such.

The question I have is what should my video settings be? My system specs are below:

AMD Athlon 2500+
512MB DDR 2700 RAM
Abit NF7-S Motherboard
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

I run the game currently on medium settings at 800x600. Just curious if my rig could handle 1024x768 at medium settings or a higher setting at 800x600?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm on a 2100+ with 512 megs RAM and a 9600Pro and I'm running at 800x600 on medium, so you can probably bump up to 1024x768 at least. I would stay on medium since your gfx card only has 128 megs of RAM.

Yeah the memory your video card has pretty much determines what video quality you will have.

64 megs = low
128 = medium
256 = high
512 (doesn't exist afaik) = ultra

I have a nvidia 5900XT w/ 128 mb made by gainward and am running it in medium at max resolution thanks to overclocking.

I have a 64mb card and run 800x600 medium fine. There's still hope for those with older cards.

What are the rest of your specs? What kind of frame rates are you getting? I just OC'ed my 2500+ to 3200+. I tried the new beta 4.9 drivers and they ended up crashing the game.

Here's a question, what's an acceptable average frame rate when playing this game?

I've got the same setup pretty much, did yours also automaticaly set itself to 640x480 on low settings? It did that to me, thought it was a bit low though, so moved up to 800x600 medium and haven't had much trouble at all.

Yup, mine defaulted to that res and med. quality when I first installed it. Weird heh?

check this out, using fraps I get 46 frames on 1024x768 on medium quality. on 800x600 I get an averate of 50 frames.

Now I'm trying to figure out if the 4 frame difference is worth it to stay at 800x600 or just to stick with 1024x768. Whutcha think?

I'm running on:

Shuttle Mini XPC
AthlonXP 2400+ (Barton)
1 Gig 3200 ram
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (latest drivers)
Princeton 19" LCD SCreen
1280x1024 Resolution

I've been playing all day and not even on crash or nothing. Why is everyone at lower resolutions? Can't the Radeon 9800 handle it. Mine seems ok. I don't get any jerkyness or anything.
