Doom2.exe and skies

Recommended Posts

How come in the original Doom2.exe when you switched episodes (like going from map11 to 12) the sky from the other episode carries over until you die or load your game in that episode?

It's always weird to see.

I guess it's some sort of bug... but that's where the sourceports come in.

Came across that bug myself when I made a wad with three different custom skies (day, dusk, and night).

The skies is handled in a manner that doesn't work if you don't start the game from the menu, so if you load a savegame or start with -warp and move to another "episode," the sky remains whatever you started with. If you save, and load that savegame, the correct sky for the map will show up.

Yeah...it's really weird seeing one sky and then dying and seeing another.

By the way, has someone ever tried to run through the entire game in doom2.exe? Will the first sky then be carried throuout the game so that you have a cloudy sky in Nirvana?

edit: Actually I ran through it myself a lot of times, but I never had time to look at the skies.

Yeah, I wanted to see the brown sky the whole game so I did a run with Doom2.exe and saw it. It looked pretty weird.

Actually I ran through doom2 several times while recording in UV and NM and I never really paid attention :P

I'll check it out next time !!!

It's pretty simple; if you start the game up, choose the difficulty from the menu, and play on, the skies do change. But if you warp there, even to Map01, the sky you started with remains throughout.
