Deathmatcher Posted August 9, 2004 For most of us, there was a time when we did not talk about imps and cacodemons. We did not know the proper names that id had made up for the foes you encounter in Doom. In 1995, a friend and I started to play Doom and we made up our own names for the demons that we encountered, so we could talk about the game. These were funny names that we made up. Later, the official list of names could be looked at at the end of doom2 and in the manuals (that we did not have at that time). As for our old names: Zombie Man - Zombie Shotgun Guy - Zombie (we did not realize that there were two sorts of Zombies at first) Imp - Brown Mutant Demon - (Pink) Dog Spectre - Invisible Dog Lost Soul - Devil´s head Cacodemon - Killer Tomato Baron of Hell - Slime Thrower Spider MM. - Spider Cyberdemon - Rocket Launcher (this was the first demon that we eventually called properly, as in the ending text it says "the loathsome cyberdemon lord..bla bla" [ Edit: As for the doom2 monsters: Heavy weapon dude - fat zombie Hell Knight - bright slime thrower Pain Elemental - devil´s head spitter Revenant - giant skeleton Mancubus - fatso or fat flamethrower Arachnotron - small spider Arch Vile - I don´t remember, ghost or something demon spitter - end boss ] Anyone of you made up their own names? 0 Share this post Link to post

Baron Posted August 9, 2004 I used to call Cacodemons "Carpets" before I knew their actual name. 'Cause I thought from a distance they kinda resembled floating red circular rugs?! meh... Oh yeah, and in Doom64 I called the zombie guys "Forrest Gump" Not because I didn't know their name, but because I didn't particularly care for Doom64 and they kinda looked like him...but with green hair! 0 Share this post Link to post

Revenant100 Posted August 9, 2004 Well I read the manual before the game, but I've always had a habit of calling the Spider Mastermind the Spider Demon, probably from using Dehacked too much. I remember getting into an argument with someone on another forum over his name. 0 Share this post Link to post
m0l0t0v Posted August 9, 2004 Llamatron99: We called imps wookies Hey, me too. I used to believe they were covered in fur... but I'm not so sure anymore... I called the Baron "Big Bad Ass" because that's what they are called after you finishing E1. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cajun[CC] Posted August 10, 2004 The only thing I can remember is calling the Lost Souls "Death Heads." 0 Share this post Link to post

Kenny McCormick Posted August 10, 2004 Well I only had Shareware, but I still read the manual so I knew what was in the registered version. However I always thought the Barons of Hell were something else that was non-shareware, so I thought of them as horse-dudes. The spectres I just referred to as demons. 0 Share this post Link to post
Jayextee Posted August 11, 2004 I used to call the Demons "pigs" (Cause they snort when you kill them -- Imps on the PSX version, my first, don't grunt when idle) and pretty much everything else by their real names -- I'd read the manual, but playing PSX Doom to "March of the PIgs" by NiN was pretty cool on certain "pig"-laden stages :D 0 Share this post Link to post
