is my framerate ok?

Recommended Posts

HI,
the first things I did when I bought Doom3 were Benchmarks...

do you think that 51.2 fps as result of the second run of
'timedemo demo1.demo' is a decent framerate to play the
whole game?

this is my conf:
- 2.6GHz with Hyper-Threading.
- Nvidia 5900xt 128 Mb (overclocked)
- 512 Mb RaM.

Doom3:
High Quality
AA off
AF 8x
vsync on
all the other effects on (reflection, bump, shadows...)
res 800x600

51.2 fps (second run)

thank you!

51 frames per second enough to run the game?! Heck, it'd be GREAT to run the game! At that rate, you're talking smooth as an android's bottom. You will have no problems whatsoever.

dude how are you getting 51.2 fps? my specs are better than yours and im getting 16 fps average on that timedemo :(

windowsXP
P4 3Ghz HT enabled
1Gig Ram
GeForce FX5700LE 256MB (latest driver installed)
directX 9.0c

im playing doom3 at High Detail 800x600 with everything on except AA.

for you to get 51.2 FPS avg on that timedemo you would have to be playing at around 45-55 FPS during it's entirety... i was fluctuating from 50 down to 10 back and forth... what am i missing? :(

ok i did a little tweaking.

-changed the Graphics Aperture Size in BIOS from 64MB to 256MB (game froze at 128MB so i went with 256, dunno if it matters)
-turned off Vsync in Doom3 Advanced settings.

result: 20 FPS

did some more tweaking in nVIDIA's driver settings program.

-went to Performance & Quality Settings/Image Settings and changed
the default "Quality" to "High Performance".

result: 26 FPS

then i decided to turn off Shadows in the Advanced Settings in Doom 3.

result: 36 FPS

then i changed from '800x600 High Detail' to '800x600 Medium Detail' and it made no difference whatsoever, weird eh? i suppose its the resolution that hogs performance.

so im at 36 FPS right now in High Detail 800x600 Reso. Anyone know how i can get this higher without turning off the essentials? thx

I Did some tweaking with the cfg
and my video card is heavily overclocked...
in game I realized frame rate is between 35-65, but, really few times, drops to 28-30.

I'll give you a link where I found a good guide to tweak the game,
maybe you already know it... http://www.tweakguides.com/Doom3_1.html

Doom3 runs really good on nvidia hardware.I guess you got that fps because you overclocked something that is already really good.

Of course 50+ fps is great, hell most people are happy at 20-30.
