You must not get out much. The words I hear butchered by customers at my store is quite staggering.

The top few are:

Associate. No one can say this right in the entire state but me.

Ask. Yup, three letters, but it always comes out like 'axe'.

Escape. There is no X in escape, why do you pronounce it as if it has one?

Our. Another seemingly simple word, always mangled into 'are'.

The list could go on forever ;(
I'm sure it's all because common people simply don't read.

I'm sure it's all because common people simply don't read.

I pronounce all of these correctly.

The #2 on my list is the word "question." About 40-60% of people seem to pronounce it KWESH-tin instead of KWES-chin. #1 would be "often," where it's incorrectly pronounced "OFF-tin" about 70% of the time.

Who cares, different dialects pronounce words differently. As long as you know what word they're trying to say, it doesn't really matter. Every day life isn't one big grammar test.
