Petition to haXor your website (Maddox news)

Maddox, in his latest update, banned WebSense's IP from his website. I think it's a damn good idea, albeit kind of after the fact since he was already rated. Incidentally, I find the idea of censoring websites appalling-- even if it is for people who CHOOSE to control which sites their children/students/whatever can and can't visit. If I, as a young child, weren't allowed to visit certain websites it would fuel my need for retaliation even more. Anyway, without getting into too much of a rant...

I'm with ya! It really sucked in school when WebSense actually banned a website we were supposed to go to for a history class.

circumventing whatever shitty blocks your parents / school put on the web teaches kids far, far more about computers than any number of shitty IT classes.

It's educational, therefore I give it the thumbs up.

EDIT: Those things suck. I can't get to gaming sites at school, but I type Playboy.com, for kicks and I get there, expecting a blocking page. I also found myself playing a Flash game where women rubbed thier pussies by accident. And went to geoshitties.com and got "tiny asian-ahoels". They suck.

i remember we got around the highschools block back in 2000. also there was a computer class and internet was blocked, but poorly. infact if you opened word, or any application for that matter, you could get online. basicly by going to file, open and clicking the internet icon(if i recall) keep in mind these systems where old. like windows 95, a few with 98.

also the master password was the teacher's first name. i guessed that one on the first try. the password was "alice" later that year the main IT guy left out the passwords list. needless to say we copied it, thanks to the copy machine in the same room. that, and the next, year we had no problems doing what we wanted. includeing installing and playing doom. the kids at the CTC center did the same thing. however they got busted. in the end they found 6 CS servers made from spare parts hidden in odd locations. they really made 8 servers, but could not find the last 2. those where hidden in a closet near the networking room, the other was in the cafiteria in a closet.

LOL, yeah i remember, They had blocked out things like Paint ("OMG they mite use it to change teh wallpaper!"), but by going to "Open office document" and setting it to "All files", you basically had an unrestricted file browser right there that let you open whatever you wanted. Plus my schools internet security was the worst EVER, it was just a proxy server, so all you had to do was go into connection settings and un-check the box for "connect using a proxy server", the IT admin actually caught me and my friends doing it, but he wanted to be seen as "cool", cause he was probably a virgin at like 45 (no offence to people who 'start slowly', i did, but at 45, you really should consider a whore), so he just said "Dont tell any little kids how to do it", naturally i told everybody on my bus (almost 90 people, yeah it was crammed and lots of seats had to take 3 people, but thats another story entirely), even wrote out how to do it and printed out several copies, on thier printers, and handed it out to 11 year old kids. Along with a list of free porn site addresses...

After leaving that school we where allowed to keep our accounts on the 'school system' (a subdomian they ran on a s shitty "christian community" site with chatrooms, email ect), but mine was deleted for 'some reason'..heh

Google Image Search was blocked. Altavista worked on occasion, but the whole website was banned after the fact.

So what is websense?

Heh I was at a gaming place, once, where you could pay to go online or play counterstrike (I was away from my computer for a week okay?) and I went there and logged into my website's CPanel. Then I tried to access internet options to delete the cookies, but it was blocked. So I found a backway in by going to Veiw->Privacy Report... And clicking Settings... (They were using IE). I managed to delete the cookies, but then the comp froze up, and the guy behind the counter restarted it and was like in a jerkoff way "Don't go into internet options next time" and I was said I wanted to delete my cookies, but he acted like a jerk and just kept walking back to the counter not acknowledging me. And then the manager walked in, apparently notified that something was wrong, and stared at me from the doorway for a bit, trying to scope me out to see if I was a hacker.

The idea is not good enough... what could work is detect a websense IP and offer the bot a nice flowered language page. No more filtering.

A couple of years ago I got around some of the blocks in the system. It doens't matter now, because in my school, the net usually doesn't work at all because of overwhelming traffic.

Many blockers can be gotten around by clicking a hyperlink to a site. You could do a search on google and look for a link to click, or go here :D

If I had children, I wouldn't let them use the internet at all. For one, I don't want them exposed to stuff till they're good and ready, and for another, children ruin the internet. I think we here at Doomworld have all seen how that works first hand.

Heh, children don't mes up the internet, pedos and porn site with spyware and dialers do, and I've never heard of a child pedo or porn site admin :D

Probably something about you having children. Because we all know the next Hitler is going to come from one of us. The question is just who. Or it's just a cheesy and disgusting joke using another definition of "had."


Anyway, this could be fun. I think I'm going to submit websense.com for being excessively Orwellian and some other crap like Fox News. If only we could check exactly what is already banned and not.
