More Doom Movie Casting News

Recommended Posts

Hollywood Reporter has a small tidbit about the Doom movie. Apparently Rosamund Pike (James Bond fans might remember her in Die Another Day as Miranda Frost) is joining the cast to play a scientist named Samantha opposite Eomer, I mean Karl Urban. Begin snide remarks about the movie... now.

This is where I'd criticize a Doom movie somehow squeezing in an actress just for sex appeal, though I suppose the sell-out nature of the movie was obvious years before an announcement was even made.

Isn't Samantha the girl that gets her skull ripped out and turned into a lost soul when you find her in the game? I thought she was named Samantha..

Disregard my earlier complaint, this shit is kinky.

It's not a love story. It's Grimms sister, and according to the guy who wrote the story (he posted here a cuple of times) She was introduced specifically so there WOULDN't be a love story in the movie.

Well, she's British, so at least she can actually act...

That's not always true.

I just hope they don't put in random, stupid, and pointless sexual scenes just to push the R rating... I hope it's rated for Blood, Gore, Violent, and Language... That was the only problem I had with RE. THey put these random and meaningless sex scenes in there for no appearant reason. It had almost nothing to do with teh storyline and it could have done without it. But, thats just my opinon anyways.

hahahaha, hell no, stingrza. Specifically, here.

It's a mystery to me how I managed to miss that thread - then again, I was probably too busy trying to avoid DW, waiting the last few days for Doom 3 to come out here (I didn't want to get tempted into reading spoiler threads).

Pity, it could've been fun to provide this guy with some creative feedback.

So, John Grimm is actually the Doomguy after all - meh.

Are you talking about RE or RE: Apocalypse? I haven't seen Apocalypse since it's not out in UK cinemas yet, but I've seen the original and there were no sex scenes in that (unless you were watching some porno remake or something ;)).

There were a couple of extremely brief glimpses of Milla Jovovich in the nude, but no right-minded heterosexual man should be complaining about that!

I wish a very well respected and great director (who has played doom as much as we have) would do the doom movie. Spielberg? I have a feeling this is going to be HORRID just like any other game movie adaptation, probably PG-13 with bad acting and special effects (obvious CG monsters) that look nothing like they did in the game Doom.

I'll be there to see it on opening day, but since it's most likely going to based off Doom 3, I doubt it will really make my favorite movie (closest to the original game) list.

Why can't the DOOM community direct it? We know how the monsters look..and act..and move!!

who said speilberg is directing!??!? For that to happen, they'd have to add a small annoying boy in the film that you just want to crush his head in with your boot everytime you see him or hear his most ear piercing voice. I hate all of that guy's movies, what a gay child-molester-wannabe wad... oh, speaking of that, it would be cool if the word "wad" appeared somewhere in the film and refrenced some kinda building design of sorts...

On the positive side, I expect this to be a weak, poor, dull, annoying movie with many mistakes and problems. A movie that will neither satisfy Doom fans nor "regular" movie goers. So at worst I will be proven correct and may possibly even be pleasantly surprised.

However, with Doom3 (the game) simply being a mediocre game presented on a fantastic engine, my reaction to the movie is already likely to be more positive than the disappointment I felt with the game.

IIRC in the novels Arlene was John Grimm's girlfriend. They first bump into each other in hell...naked.

Yep, I have no hope for it, it's just a shady marketing ploy to take advantage of the short term success of "Doom III". Games rarely have stories worthy of a movie, and Doom is a pretty obvious example of that. Not to mention this movie's target audience is braindead American male teenagers :P

I haven't played it yet, but that's kind of what I was expecting from the get-go. "More technology, less design" has been id's unofficial motto for a while now, and over the last 5 years they've given third party developers access to the titles Wolfenstein, Commander Keen, Quake, and Doom. And now they're content to squeeze a little more out of Doom to make a trashy teen action flick with little or no quality control on their part. Not exactly a company reeking in integrity :)
