This is something I would really like to get going. It's simple to set up, simple to operate and helps save lives.

I see many people make threads about friends and family members who have struggled with cancer and other awful things. This is our chance at ebaums to help scientists unravel codes and understand many of these diseases such as cancer, HIV, Alzheimer’s etc...

Basically it is a small program you download that receives codes from scientist’s, works on them and sends it back to the scientists. Millions of people are folding making a massive difference. Breakthroughs have already happened because of normal pc’s users folding information.

Running this program does not affect the performance of your computer CPU speed or bandwidth.

Here is a flash movie that gives you a bit more information. (http://www.teamshort-media.com/videos/foldflash2.html)

If you decide you want to take part and help here is the program.

NT/2000/XP (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/Folding@Home503.EXE)
Windows 98/ME (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/Folding@Home4.EXE)
Linux Console(x86) (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/FAH502-Linux.exe)
Mac OS X (http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/release/FAH4-GUI.dmg)

Once the program is running, right click the icon in systray go to configure and enter team number 42864 (45070 for The Doom Community) and your name hit ok, and that’s it!

You don't have to do anything else.

While you’re sat on your lazy asses you're helping to cure cancer and other nasty things.

Let’s see how much data we can crunch, we have enough members to do extremely well!

Click here(http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=42864) for our statistics. (it will grow as we get more people folding!) The member’s part will update and list everyone who finished a task and uploads the info back. This happens automatically.

For more info on Folding go to http://folding.stanford.edu/

Issues -

* Some games will boot you back to desktop if you don't pause then quit the folding program.
* WU Finishing times can get silly, some will say it will take months to complete. Ignore it, the time will go down eventually. If after a few days it doesn't reboot the prog.
* You will only appear on the team table once a work unit has been completed. (Give it a few hours once a WU is done to appear)

Fin.
[/quote]I think the Doom Community could boost this a lot too, which is why I made a team called “The Doom Community”.The number is 45070. Let’s show the world what Doomers United can do :p

While it's great and all, there would never be any recognition of us, I mean, does the science institution really want to credit the cure for aids to a bunch of people playing a 12 year old computer game?

If it is true, why not?

Because Scientists are a bunch of snooty...snoots who can't look further than their noses...which I why they are always asking other people to figure out stuff for them! [/stereotype]

Heh.
"Jehar helped save my life!"
Anybody saying that would probably be put into heavy custody for Middle Eastern terrorist support.

It feels so strange to run something ending in .exe in Linux that's not using Mono.

Anyways, looks like I'll have to leave this running at home. I can't get through the firewall here at work/school.
