Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, I hope you guys don't mind:)
Uploaded three screens from which I think they look impressive, see first post.
The map is pretty high on detail altough you might not see it very good on those screens.
It uses more cool Zdoom tricks I learned the past few weeks, like sliding doors, ambient sounds, and colored lighting.
Im actually pretty proud on my cool looking skybox, I just can't do without those anymore.
The map is going by the name "Total Control" probably not an original name but hey it sounds cool to me.

I sold my soul to the devil in order to get my maps to look good.
Just kidding I just have alot of fantasy, watch alot of tv and movies.
Pay attention to architecture outside, and play alot of other games too.
When playing other games I usually look at the design of the levels.
I never draw stuff on paper, I just fire up doombuilder and start editing.
All the areas in those screens where build from my thoughts, not from an drawing thats how I work.

Just wondering how long do you make maps for doom, ive been mapping for at least five years now.
Started out with an sharewhare editor, I was limited to 25 sectors.
I made my very first maps with it, and pretty crappy ones too.
After that I worked with an version on windeu which was good for me for the time being.
Now I use doombuilder and I have to say, I never want another editor again.

When I first started out with mapping, I wasn't too serious about my work.
My first maps where basicly gigantic arena's filled with monsters.
But when learned more and more editing tricks that all changed fast.
After that my maps began to look like an actual doom map, and I payed more attention to detail.
And coming to community's like this one really helped me, cause I learned alot since then.

Well I made like 5 crappy wads that were never released before I even had internet access, I used the Windows based DoomEd which was the only one that I could get anywhere with, cept I was never able to make a friggin' door. I was happy with the results however.

Years later after a couple years in college I started Dooming again, discovered this site and I'm working on my first map to be released as we speak, using Doombuilder which is the niftiest tool since the spork.

See first post for more YUM, no idea what that means I suppose its a good thing.
Uploaded three new screens (bottom three), they are still unfinished believe it or not.
But the results are good allready, my map will have difficulty settings this time.
I decided to not use decorate monsters for this map, maybe my next one will have them dunno yet.
Im trying to make this map look like an old out of use uac base, that is attacked by the forces of hell...how original:)
It doesn't have an story, im not good on making up an nice story.
Hope you like the screens.

Im using an different name for my level but thanks for the suggestion :)
Thanks for the feedback, I still have a lot of work to do on it.
So it will take me more time to get it done, but I am in no rush I want this map to be better than all my other maps.
Im trying to get my map non-lineair for the most part, so far it goes well.
Im sticking to tech looking maps for a while, im getting better at making those.
Mapping is fun:)

Hmmm dunno most corridors are 128 wide, maybe it looks small on those screenies.
You will encounter mostly low level monsters when walking through it.
So there should be enough room to strafe, but thx for the feedback it helps me.

yes it is, if it gets updated this weekend, I'll try your E1M3 then. how long has this one taken you so far? Can we see the map layout so far? how many maps have you made? sorry for all the questions.

my post was made 2 days prior to yours, my map has taken me about a 1'1/2 months so far...I'm sure once I get more experienced with details and advanced features I will have longer ones.
