Linguica Posted August 11, 2005 How did we miss this when it hit every tech site known to man last week? Probably because we suck. In any event, Doom on the iPod. Yes, actual Doom that you actually play on an actual iPod. No, I don't think that anyone will actually seriously use this, but getting Doom to run on Gadget XYZ is some sort of nerd badge of honor, so huzzah. 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted August 11, 2005 If I had an ipod, I would install it. I have doom on my phone, but this is better. 0 Share this post Link to post
XDelusion Posted August 11, 2005 I wonder how well it works. I don't own or intend to own an iPod, but I'd really like to see it in action! Can't wait for some DOOM related Nintendo DS homebrew like this either: http://dual-soft.com/doomds/ 0 Share this post Link to post
SirBardCat Posted August 11, 2005 how the fuck is it possible to run doom on an ipod?! i thought all an ipod is is an audio playback device... i didn't think it had like a processor or memory or any of that shit. weird. eh, i'm totally ignorant when it comes to anything other than desktops and laptops anyway 0 Share this post Link to post
Nazxul Posted August 11, 2005 Damn, my iPod model doesn't support it. I'd try it, looks a bit laggy in those demo videos, though... 0 Share this post Link to post
Udderdude Posted August 12, 2005 It's a neat hack, but looks like it's running on a 386 in the videos. Maybe an update with smaller display and less graphics effects will help .. but not much. :P 0 Share this post Link to post
sgtcrispy Posted August 12, 2005 I tried to get it to work on my G3 iPod but alas... Cool none the less. 0 Share this post Link to post

Jon Posted August 13, 2005 In related news, doom has been ported to the maemo application platform, allowing it to run on the new nokia 770 handheld device: http://www.internettablettalk.com/content/view/82/2/ has pics and a video, via http://gnomedesktop.org/node/2344 Note: this isn't a mobile phone, it's a little portable web browser thing, running a derivative of Debian GNU/Linux. 0 Share this post Link to post
