Texture Swapper

Recommended Posts

I have a map I did about a year ago that I finished up tonight, a plain old vanilla compatible map, and I'm looking to release it now.

However, I can't use the textures that it's currently using. I need to swap them for something else, but they are on a few hundred lines and sectors. So doing it manually would suck.

I tried DOOM Builder, but it crashes when I hit TAB to select another texture.

Anyone know of another editor that allows you to mass swap textures in a map?

Hmm, is some sort of texture replacer built in to DooMBuilder,
"find and replace..." (ctrl + H)[while in lines eddit mode]

That help any?

Sweet, thanks.

DOOM Builder has what I want, but it crashes when I use the feature to select another texture to use (when I hit tab). I reported the error to the developer of that editor.

What about running them in compatibility mode (assuming you're running Windows XP or later) or Google searching for the missing file in question?

What about the hex editor? You can do a mass replace for each texture name that changes all the strings containing the data.

Where's that h4x0r spirit?!

I tried, but after saving, it hosed the file.

This crummy little map was destined not to be released. Bah!

Maybe due to string length; if I'm not mistaken for names under 8 characters those beyond the last one must be 00 null characters.

This is a known bug Mark.

Using DB is the easiest way of doing this, and I've done it myself many times.

Workaround for bug:
When the dialog with the textures opens make sure you select something BEFORE you press Tab(I usually choose the first entry, which I think is "-") This way, it will NOT crash.
