I could say that this coincides with much of the politics of the same past 5 years, but for the sake of not causing trouble, I won't.

*sigh* I miss the '90s.

And not only that, but like EVERY one of Fox's cartoon comedies does this every two minutes in their shows?

Family guy relies on pop culture jokes more than any show on TV. I will offer the generation test, will your children think family guy is fummy? When a joke abou tthe Smurphs comes on or Thundercats... will they laugh? I am arbitrarily chosing Futurama since it too was a Fox show... now will your children laugh at Futurama when the professor says UltraPorn?

Count the number of times in the next episode of Famiy Guy they do cutaways to pop culture references, and it is staggering how much of the episode it is.

Yeah, I saw it tonight. It was awesome. I think it was a parody of the show Naked Gun was based off of (Police Squad! I think it was called?). That's how the show opened up...with a police car driving around into weird locations...or maybe that was the movie...been so long since I've seen either.

That's exactly what it is. Doom just happened to be one of the funny locales that stewie travels through.

And as far as FG using too many pop culture references, the show has always been like that. I don't care, I think it's funny.

I think any given medium using pop-culture references for humor is cute for a while, but after that while I feel tempted to scream "Use your own content!" at the game creators.

I sometimes have that problem when I hear "Aliens" references in Starcraft.

Let's not forget that the section right after the Doom clip was footage from The Empire Strikes Back...Doom and Star Wars on TV within a matter of seconds of eachother in screentime was insta-boner for me.

I've noticed there's been more references this season on the show then ever before. Some of them are funny, but I think they're doing way too many now.

Just imagine the back of Stewie's head, some hands for the bike and some imps in E1M5 beyond the yellow door. :Þ

I think the segue ways are what makes Family Guy what it is, sort of a trademark. In any case, I'm not bothered by their increase.

For the quick-clickers, instead of going through goddamn putfile.

HAHAHA that was sweet! I agree that Family Guy uses too many references lately, but this intro was funny, and I knew all the references. And doom, in a TV show... well, they must have SOME taste. I don't know what those sounds were though... definitely not the imps I know.

When I was young, watching Beavis and Butt-head for the first time, I didn't get the bulk of the humour there, or recognise any of the bands featured in the shows, but I after, you know, I grew a brain, I began to appreciate the cartoon to a point where it became one of my favourites. Shows like B&B and Family Guy are a history lesson, really. They make you smarter.

PS: The Beavis and Butt-head DVD volume one comes out tomorrow. You know I'm going to be all over that, suckas.

It definitely did not look at all like the SNES version of doom... but how are you sure?

EDIT: You know what? Never mind. The FPS and the resolution are way too good for SNES doom, even way too good for PC Doom. Why would they make up a bullshit story like that? Really, why?

It was the first movie in the opening scene where Frank is spy somewhere in the Middle East.

I was laughing hard enough at the Naked Gun spoof, but when the Doom shot came up...well, I nearly turned the front of my pants white.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but by the time I downloaded the codecs, I found the movies are no longer on the pages linked to. Does anyone know if I can find this anywhere else?
