Doom_user Posted April 16, 2006 How do you make the type of colormap that turns the player's entire view a different color. Using XWE I've only been able to make the type where the player's view fades to a different color in the distance. 0 Share this post Link to post
Enjay Posted April 16, 2006 If you are using Zdoom, certain COLORMAP based effects will not work. 0 Share this post Link to post

Enjay Posted April 16, 2006 Zdoom does not use the colormap lump for certain things. I'm not sure what all it uses it for but I know I once had a modified file that changed the colour of the invulnerability effect, and that doesn't work under Zdoom - it just uses the normal inverted greyscale effect when the file is loaded. I'll go for an absolute guess here and suggest that Zdoom uses the colormap for remapping of palette colours for dim light effects and so on, but doesn't use it for screen tint effects like damage, powerup flashes etc. Remember, that's just a guess. 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom_user Posted April 16, 2006 Based on what I've read, ZDoom no longer uses palettes 2-14 (used for damage, radiation suit, and item pickup) or the invulnerability range of the colormap. All of these effects are now produced by the engine itself so that several can occur simultaneously and be blended together. 0 Share this post Link to post

In that thread I was trying to figure out how to edit palettes #11-14 (used for the item pickup and radiation suit effects). What I'm currently trying to figure out is how to make the custom colormaps that Boom compatible ports can use to produce an effect similar to colored lighting. http://prboom.sourceforge.net/DOOM05.jpg http://prboom.sourceforge.net/DOOM06.jpg 0 Share this post Link to post

You can use Inkworks or DeePsea. DeePsea can change colormaps in the same dialog that changes palettes. Press F7 (tm) Now enable "Process Colormap" by clicking the check box Then click the Colormap button and you can change any of the mappings. A bit of work and you have to experiment. Please read the help for more info - topic= "Palette Editing PLAYPAL" since there are a few cautions. You DO NOT have to register to do this. sbsoftware.com 0 Share this post Link to post
