Job Posted August 22, 2006 This is really tragic. Of course, all accidents are unexpected, which is what gives them such weight. I can't say I knew him the best, but when a Doomer passes on, I feel as though I've lost a good friend. God rest your soul, Toke. 0 Share this post Link to post
GeeDougg Posted August 22, 2006 I haven't even had anything to dowith anything Doom-related for more than a year now, 'cuz I've begun to concentrate on RL and making a career/living, but when I read this I had to post.... I think I only ever saw Toke on IRC and maybe talked to him a few times too. But I was used to seeing him on forums here and there and he was a familiar Doom community member to me. I'm saddenned to read this news, and to make it worse I was already listening to sad music when I saw this news post. Rest In Peace Dylan, and God Bless you and your family. I hope yourfriends and family and anyone who was close to you or knew you gets through this. Peace 0 Share this post Link to post
Doom_Dude Posted August 22, 2006 darknation said:he was one of the guys stoating around the newdoom / old legacy forums when I was just a stupid n00b. He put up with my crap pretty well, considering. Yeah I first encountered Toke on Newdoom. I had this sig that said "The Only Good Vile Is A Dead Vile" (no offence meant to Toke or his passing) and when Toke spotted it he gave me both barrels because he thought it was a reference to some old Doom Clan I had never heard of. I thought he was crazy at first and didn't know what his problem was until somebody pointed that he was defending a clan that used Vile in the title. Does anybody know what that clan was exactly? I didn't know Toke well and only had words with him a couple times. He was one of those oldschool guys that stuck with the game all these years and it's sad to hear that he died in a car crash. :( Condolences to Toke's clan, on and offline. 0 Share this post Link to post
Craigs Posted August 22, 2006 Toke was the one that got me interested in mapping for Doom. I've always admired all the work he's done. His experience with Dehacked was incredible and all the maps he made were clever and really pushed the limits of Zdaemon. At times some of his maps felt like a different game. I'm gonna miss him. 0 Share this post Link to post
Erik Posted August 22, 2006 I knew Dylan from IRC and zdaemon, he was a great guy and probably the best DM mapper around the community. Sad news indeed. 0 Share this post Link to post
ocelot Posted August 22, 2006 Toke was part of the small group of players I was introduced to when I found Doomserv in the fall of 2000. I still remember my first DS game with him, it was map1 at 350ms without ticdup. The only known and working ways to play doom online back then were using zdoom in some way. I didn't know back then which way Toke would go, but a year or so after when I got back to the deathmatch scene after a year of no internet, he had become a supporter and of the authentic mode of play, something that a purist like myself heartily appreciated, and we always got along well. I finally met him at a lanparty in South Riding, Virginia in August of 2003, and liked him immediately. In real life, I could not sense any of the occasional assertiveness of his online personality. Instead, I perceived a likable, easy-going guy who enjoyed hanging out, shooting the shit, and shooting doom marines in a wide variety of maps. Maps at the making of which he was an outstanding talent himself, possessing a superior sense of good gameplay. Whenever I wasn't busy playing doom at the aforementioned lanparty, I would follow Toke and Dominus when they left the gaming area for a smoke break, though I don't smoke myself. They just were the type of guys I liked being around. Now that Toke is so abruptly gone, I feel bad for not stopping by #nightmare2 more often than I did, just to say hi. It never hurts to show the people that you like that you like them, because, as I am crudely reminded, things happen. May God have mercy on your soul, Dylan. 0 Share this post Link to post
Remilia Scarlet Posted August 22, 2006 This is sad news. I didn't really know him, but my sincere thoughts go out to his family. May he rest in peace. 0 Share this post Link to post
sargebaldy Posted August 22, 2006 What the hell. I really don't know what to say here. I'd say it's unexpected, but then seeing how Toke was living his life... I'd say something about him, but I really don't know what there is to say. I always got along with him fine, maybe better than some people, but he wasn't ever really someone I was close to. This isn't much of a eulogy, but oh well. 0 Share this post Link to post
Janizdreg Posted August 22, 2006 I'm sorry to hear this. R.I.P. Toke. BTW, are Toke's IV and Vile WADs still available for download somewhere? 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted August 22, 2006 One thing Toke and I talked about when he made his trip down here that really stuck with me was his love of driving. He drove all over this state and pretty much knew how to get here before I even gave any directions. So I guess you could say he died doing something he loved. Still, car wrecks are such a waste, and they're the number one killer of young people in this country. I wanna know when something's going to change to stop this. An entire generation is falling on the roads and it makes me sick. 0 Share this post Link to post
Haloless0320 Posted August 22, 2006 Whoa...I didn't know him well but damn it sucks. It sucks to have such an Inspiring doomer pass like that.May his memory live on in his wads forever. Here's to you toke.(Tosses back a shot of Jack) 0 Share this post Link to post
Job Posted August 22, 2006 A senryu for Toke: A man who loved Doom, He deathmatched, from Flynn to Crash; the other crash won 0 Share this post Link to post
exp(x) Posted August 22, 2006 I only really played with him once while testing a map he made for Skulltag 0.97, but I instantly respected him. It was fun to just spectate while he and Carn dueled. Even though I rarely agreed with his comments in the irc channels, I couldn't not like him. Farewell, Toke. 0 Share this post Link to post
Cacodemon Posted August 22, 2006 Didn't know him but sad to loose a DooMer anyway. 0 Share this post Link to post
Dutch Doomer Posted August 22, 2006 Sad news I didn't knew him myself R.I.P. Toke. 0 Share this post Link to post
DarKGore Posted August 22, 2006 I've known Toke for about 7 years, I have been out of the community here for a year or so, and I haven't spoken with him for perhaps 8 months, we traded music and WAD's and such. I decided to come check the good ol' Doomworld site, and to my surprise I saw this post. This is sad sad news, Toke was a very awesome guy, I remember he showed me pictures he took when he had the first accident, he had it the same day I saw the pictures, and I told him he was lucky to get out of that one, sadly it didn't happen twice =( May he rest in peace. R.I.P. Toke! This bowl is for you! 0 Share this post Link to post
SulfurOccult Posted August 22, 2006 wow, this is very sad news. the doom community rarely has to deal with death among its members. Hails, Toke! now he is playing DM on that big LAN in the sky. 0 Share this post Link to post
Chewy2 Posted August 22, 2006 Toke and I used to hate each other back in 2000-2001. We hated each other so much that we even sunk to using deragatory names towards one another. I then lost contact with him and never spoke to him again until 2006 when I ran into him in the #Nightmare channel where I was ranting about how my IP address was caught under zdaemon's ban range. Within a few minutes of my rant, Toke, out of nowhere, said my ban was fixed. I immediately tried to login to zdaemon and it worked. Even tho I have some really bad memories of Toke, I believe its the last memories of a person that really count, and my last memory of Toke made me believe that he was simply a very helpful guy. Rest in Peace. 0 Share this post Link to post
Zack Posted August 23, 2006 Toke it up. It's a coincidence that such a hardcore fan of id's games lost his life on John Carmack's birthday. I must have met Toke online 7 or 8 years ago, on DoomServ when it was still called ZM. He was one of my favorite 1-on-1 matches; We'd DM on DWANGO wads and we'd always come very close to a tie...and then he'd always pull ahead at the last minute. I wish I had more to say. Toke: GGs man. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted August 23, 2006 I clipped the article published in the 21st's Oklahoman about Toke's accident. It provided a little more detail than the one that was linked here. Mainly, it says that he was wearing his seatbelt, so we can put that bit of idle speculation behind us. I've been looking out for an obituary but I can't seem to find one. If one is published in a major paper it would probably be in the Tulsa World, but I can't easily get my hands on that paper :/ 0 Share this post Link to post

Porcoa Posted August 23, 2006 Hello everyone, I don't play Doom, but I did know Dylan, I met him through my cousin who is a good friend of his. I got on the internet to see if the Doom community knew about what has happened. I didn't know if he was still active in it. He was a good person, damn funny, and always down to smoke a bowl. R.I.P. Dylan. Also no mentioned in the article, the guy who hit him was drunk. He died instantly. EDIT: If anyone would like more information or anything, you can contact me at Porcoa@Gmail.com. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted August 23, 2006 Toke's death notice is in today's Tulsa World newspaper and was thus posted online. Here it is: McIntosh, Dylan, 23, computer specialist and entrepreneur, died Saturday. Services pending. Moore's Southlawn. 0 Share this post Link to post
TawmDee Posted August 23, 2006 I never really talked to Toke that much, we usually just made fun of eachother in a tounge-in-cheek non-serious way, but I always found him a pretty funny and cool guy. I can't say this affects me that much, since I was never that close to the guy (internet and all), but i'm sure it does come as a blow to the community to see his loss. It only comes as a moderate shock to me. RIP regardless 0 Share this post Link to post
