Recommended Posts

Ok, I have to change this into a ctf wad cause it will not mix with dm.

It would be a good idea to give a better description of the wad if you want people to help you.

Theam: Mainly hellish, some stuff that some other people would like to add (example, midevil moutainish area, underground, volcaino, ect).

Name of wad is, Death Theory.

If you join me and make a map you must make it look good (like bodys and blood everywhere) and have a good atmisphere (i think thats how you spell it...) and it cannot be to small, the minimum size of the map needs to be just a little smaller then the E2M8 (Tower of Bable) of doom(1).

Has to have good music in map, good sky texture and bug free.

(also please make sure you have enough skill at mapping ok)

Well is that a better discription of the wad???

Well, it certainly explains some things. Is there an edge to this map set per se? In other words, is there something that makes this map set unique in some way other than "bodies and blood everywhere?"

This may add flair to a map, but it won't make a map good. There needs to be an enthralling sense of dm map design that makes people want to continue playing the map. The map should also have design elements that encourage thrilling gameplay. And captivating (but not distracting) architectural detail is a plus. If blood and bodies are what you think makes a map good, I see a bad moon rising over this project.

The correct spelling is atmosphere, but that shouldn't worry you.

Well i dont know what "map set per se" is but if you mean like Waterfalls, Fountains, Windows, Skylights, ect then yea its more then "blood and bodies"

i put all the stuff in the beggining post, tell me if its good detail of wat the levels need to be ok.

Sounds like you're trying to create a generic dm map set. Okay. I guess we can't too many of those.

Yeah, I know.

So, you're asking for skilled level designers.
Who says YOU are skilled enough since all I see is your name behind map01.

Without anything decent to show, like a screenshots of a level in progress, don't expect too much.

I was going to make a smartassed reply to this thread, but I'll simply reply with me agreeing with someone else.

Exactly. When I pleaded with forum members two years ago for help with ZDCTFMP, I got a lot of the same flak that you did. Only thing was, I worked my ass off and cranked out 5 maps myself and got some friends to contribute before people started paying attention to me.

If you're an unknown, and you want to make a 'community' wad, you've got to do a large portion of your own work first before you can expect other people to help you.

Thats what Tormentor667 did for Stronghold as well show some if his maps to get people interested.
I like to know if your an skilled mapper and I think screens or demo maps are an very good example.

I have to say, those look pretty bland and boring. Add a little it of architecture and see if you can stray away from the basic "geometric" idea of DM maps which has been so overused already.

No offense buddy, but you've got A LOT to learn before you're ready to lead a project. The maps you've provided are barren, underdetailed, with loads of Misaligned textures. You've said before that you're using Doombuilder, so detail really shouldn't be much of a problem considering Doombuilder's "Dumb sector Drawing system" or whatever it's called makes adding detail newb friendly. I know, you said specificly that "The map is not detailed yet because I'm not finished mapping" but that's no excuse for the symetrical design.

The only useful thing you said in that flame was the misalignment of textures.

What your doing right, nightmare, is the open areas (except for screen 2). It is much more fun and enjoyable to play a map that is open than a map that is cramped.

Start with learning how a multiplayer map flows and start looking at how the succesful projects or projects that you think are good, and see how the authors constructed them.

Looks okay so far can you post some bigger screens next time I hate putting my nose on my monitor ;)
I think detail isn't that important when playing DM you could just add a bit but don't go overboard with it.

thx, sorry bout the small screen. GZdoom and Zdoom won't let me get good pics of the map cause some of the textures and some other stuff that is hard to explane.

I am done with three levels now, the only problem is, i dont know how to make the flags work for ctf. you can pick them up but i dont know how to make a score post. i know you have to do somethin with "MapSpot", i just dont know what.

Anyway i should have pics up real soon.

How was that a flame? Everything he said was true, and his advice should be heeded.

This wad needs to demonstrate some appealing visuals/atmosphere that immerses the players. That doesn't necessarily mean uberloads of detail, but proper texture alignment and streamline details will go a hell of a long way. It also needs to display some nice flow and interesting gameplay mechanics that make the wad fun to play, time and time again.

You know Nightmare, that edit button is there for a reason. Why do you need to double post so often?

Yeah i got that already, detail/atmosphere.............. i know all this now. Right now i am worried mainly about how to get the ctf working properly. b4 i release im going to send it to someone that has years of understanding about these things like Torn or Kaiser. That way i know it will turn out ok. Im going to stop sending my bete wads to people that cant really rate good. I know its for others to judge but i think map 1 and 3 are good, my only doubts are map 2.
