Quasar Posted January 2, 2007 I can't get my machine to connect to IRC using my DSL connection. * Looking up irc.oftc.net * Connecting to irc.oftc.net (12.152.184.29) port 6667... * Connection failed. Error: Connection refused Earlier it would get to where it said "Looking up your host name..." and then it would sit there forever until it timed out. I have NO idea what is going on here since, as you can tell, I am getting to the web fine... 0 Share this post Link to post
myk Posted January 2, 2007 Do other servers work (EFnet, IRCnet, Quakenet, and so on)? Here's an explanation of that error. 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted January 2, 2007 Nope. No IRC connections will work. After disabling some hardware firwall options in my router, I get this: * Looking up irc.oftc.net * Connecting to irc.oftc.net (12.152.184.29) port 6667... * Connected. Now logging in... * *** Looking up your hostname... * *** Checking Ident * *** Found your hostname * Disconnected (Connection reset by peer). It also takes FOREVER to do each step. 0 Share this post Link to post
Bloodshedder Posted January 2, 2007 Have you tried a different IRC client? What brand/model is the router? Who is the ISP? 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted January 2, 2007 IRC clients tried: XChat, Bersirc Router: Linksys WRT54G DSL: Windstream (aka Alltel) I've tried varying the port as well. It has no effect. 0 Share this post Link to post
CODOR Posted January 2, 2007 Is the router allowing incoming connections to your PC on the identd port (113)? Because I think most IRC servers still expect to speak to that port... 0 Share this post Link to post
Quasar Posted January 2, 2007 It should be. I unchecked a box that said it was blocking it. This causes me to get further. But I still cannot connect. It gets to the point I showed, sits for ~5 minutes, and then says disconnected. 0 Share this post Link to post
