Segmentation Violation!

Recommended Posts

What exactly can cause an segmentation violation? And especially when it pops out before the main menu pops up? If you could help, that would be HELPFUL. Thank you!

Or are you using a Boom based engine? All, Boom, MBF and Eternity bomb like that when they don't like sumthin', because:
- map error
- new feature not ACTUALLY tested (happens on some EE versions)
- warping (changing level) ingame at any certain time (why?)
- w/e else

Happens more often than in Doom.exe, prob'ly for the better.

Legacy gives them nearly constantly if it doesnt like the map. Best solution is to save before the exit of every map, and if it gives you that error in the next map restart the computer and try again, and suddenly it will be ok. Also if you try and open a specific map in the launcher and it gives you the error, try opening the map before it and cliprunning to the exit, which will sometimes "trick" it into working.

EE's features are always tested, but sometimes a minor change manages to munge them up in some unnoticed manner right before release. This happens to all software from time to time :P

Also it's pretty much impossible to test all combinations of features and all situations they can bring about. Sometimes unexpected things happen ;)
