im having issues getting doom64 TC to work

note: before any body says is the doom2.wad in the right folder. it is

my specs is: amd64 2800, 3gb of ram and the GPU is a radeon 9800pro

ok to continue on every time i try to start the game using either the absolution.exe or the batch files it wont start. it gets shows that its loading up and then the screen goes black like its about to come in but then a windows error comes up Absolution.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

i need help badly. is there any way to get this thing to work? or can a sorce port be used as a workaround like Zdoom or one of the other ones? if so how step by step.

Well it won't work in ZDoom (afaik - because of certain Doom64 features that aren't currently in ZDoom) but I think when you download from the official site it comes with Doomsday.exe which is the port it should run on.

Do you have all these files?
-Absolution.exe
-Absolution.out
-Client.ID
-doom64.cfg
-doom64.dll
-doomsday.exe
-dpDehRead.dll
-drD3D.dll
-drOpenGl.dll
-fmod.dll
-LZSS.dll
-zlib.dll
-opengl.bat
-maxzone192.bat
-folders (Data, Defs, demo, Save Game)
-doom2.wad

That's all I have in my folder.

Does your computer have OpenGL? A good way to tell is trying to run a Quake III Arena engine game (like RTCW or JK3).

Check in doom64.cfg that the resolution and Colour quality are all OK (I've had experiences in the past where if the colour quality was too high the game wouldn't run at all)

Otherwise I don't know what to suggest :S

Hmm well you downloaded it from the official site yes? http://doomdepot.doom2.net/abs-about.html

I think that doom64.cfg might only be created once you run the game though I'm not sure. Have you tried re-downloading it?

Isen't anybody else gonna post anything?

Have you got the music wad? It says you have to put your doom2.wad into Absolution/Bin/Data/Doom64/Auto/directory. Then click Absolution.exe in the Absolution/Bin/directory.

can you run any other hardware sourceports (glboom, gzdoom in hardware mode, risen3d)?
if not, it is likely your videocard. perhaps the opengl options are messed up.
try updating your video driver.

gzdoom works fine too. its set to opengl mode.

Well if it says "Absolution has encountered a problem needs to close" window, then you can open up the details. I suggest (if you haven't already) to copy and paste the code shown into an email and mail it to whatever the address for support is on the official site.

You could post it here I guess, as some people here read code like an archaelogist reads Heiroglyphics :)

Whoa whao whoa. Doom 64 TC comes with an exe, if you simply install the whole TC into a folder on your hard drive, and then run the exe with the little Doom64 pentagram icon it should work alone as it's standalone game I think, except you'll have to throw Doom2.wad in that folder too. Dont try and run Doom64 TC with Zdoom, that's not how it works. It runs off an old modified version of JDoom. It doesnt run on any other ports.

Try installing Absolution in its own folder directly under a drive letter instead of in another folder.

For example, put it in D:\Absolution\, and not D:\Doom Stuff\Absolution\.

Also, don't move your current installation, just get rid of it, as it looks like it's totally F.U.B.A.R. to me. Reinstall from scratch.

There has been known issues when people have tried to put the Absolution folder inside another folder. Not everyone seems to have this problem (I didn't) but some have. It's worth a shot. :)

This sounds... warezy. I know it's all free anyway, but I'm not sure if repackaging it all in one installer is totally legal, and you probably should've asked the Absolution team.

Hi, I asked for permissions to Kaiser months ago, or maybe one year under Jerkteam member name, he said that I could do it, but keeping his readme files and other stuff as well. So, it's legal. I repeat, i talked with Kaiser (Samuel Villarreal).
