Vegeta Posted October 2, 2007 I prefer the good old fashioned titlepics over these. Seriously. My favorite are the Hexen and Deathkings intros. You see them and you MUST play, at least kill a pair of Ettins and then leave. And that animation with the demon killing the guy who summoned it was kinda lame, the voice sounded like edited by a novice, and the killing sequence (with the guy trying to get up) was like something you could see on GTA (in game). 0 Share this post Link to post
YMB Posted October 2, 2007 For intros, I'm gonna have to go with Arkanoid. 0 Share this post Link to post

What do you expect from a game that's almost 10 years old? Perfect cinematic cutscenes? 0 Share this post Link to post

Dr. Zin Posted October 2, 2007 The ending is even better. Deus Ex had a good intro and endings too. 0 Share this post Link to post
BoldEnglishman Posted October 2, 2007 Magic Carpet: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5WzhJ9tPeEo Rise of the Robots: I might record the intro later but right now, it's not readily available on youtube (PC version at least) Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAS73IEZuo4 Machines: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ieZsoZxsOsA Battlezone (recent PC remake): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=00e_BZx3ddA Mechwarrior 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm76b8tzzWI Throne of Darkness: (it ain't the intro, but the trailer will suffice) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJGn7hPv4QU Myth: The Fallen Lords: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjN6kEo8-Ss Myth II: Soulblighter: (ok it's a compilation of movies in the game, not just the intro) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWmyTLKXRBc&mode=related&search= Oni: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPstjZEU03I Mechcommander: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2MQPWE_M_EM Metal Fatigue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSCOaowF2UI 0 Share this post Link to post
DeumReaper Posted October 2, 2007 One intro that stands out to me is the one from Chrono Trigger (SNES). It features clips from memorable scenes with some gameplay set to the game's main theme; its variety of clips was enhanced by the fact that the game takes place over a timeline from prehistoric to futuristic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vqTZfknDVes 0 Share this post Link to post

They could just remove the animation where the character oddly tries to get up. Heretic II and Quake II are from these years too and don't suffer this kind of flaws on their cinematic cut scenes (look at the battle between Corvus and D'Sparil as a sample). 0 Share this post Link to post

Enjay Posted October 2, 2007 I really like game outros. Or rather I like the principle of game outros. I like the idea that, after toiling away at a game for ages, I get a nice cinematic treat to close out the game for me. I've noticed in the past that, often, the outros simply don't come up to the standard of the intros and I somehow feel cheated out of my treat. The intro was to get me into the game but the outro was my reward dammit! Is it just that less people are likely to see the outro so it gets less attention from the developers? Or that by the time people see the outro they have parted with their cash but intros are used for advertising - so there is more return for the developer's investment in the intro? One of the worst was the old DOS RPG "Eye of the Beholder". This was (and still is actually) one of my favourite games. It had a cool little animated intro (quite special in 1990) but, on the PC, after hours of dungeon crawling, puzzle solving and enemy smiting, you were given a brief bit of text in the normal dialogue style of the game and then dumped unceremoniously to the DOS prompt. Boy was it a disappointment when I completed the game for the first time. The later Amiga version was better because they added an amusing outro where you went back to the guys who had hired you (The Lords of Waterdeep). They were all smug and making comments like "yeah, we knew you couldn't do it" and then you throw a severed beholder eye stalk on to the table in front of them. :) 0 Share this post Link to post

Heh, I still have the PC version, with this amazing intro text: "Now it is the beginning of a fantastic story... let us make a journey to the cave of monsters. Good luck!!" Ah, now that's quality. 0 Share this post Link to post
