Statistical Questions on the iDgames Archive

Recommended Posts

I'm curious about the numbers of the iDgames Archive...

1) How many files are currently stored in there?*
2) What is the sum of all the file sizes in the iDgames Archive?*
3) What is the largest file in there?*
4) What is the average Bandwidth per month?*
5) What is the maximum bandwidth that the iDgames Archive used in a single day?* When was this? Which files were using the bandwidth?

These questions are about as useful as counting grains of sand, but hey, it's always fun wondering...

2) 27,595,985,092 bytes *
3) ETQW-demo-client-2.0-full-setup.exe 781,299,712 bytes
4) Don't know - try asking the webmaster.
5) Ditto.

* excluding /incoming, /newstuff and .message files

Keep in mind for questions 4 and 5 that it's got a lot of mirrors, and the idstuff is primarily hosted by id Software (which likely takes a good chunk of the downloads of those files in particular, such as that biggest file). Thus the bandwidth available or used is more or less impossible to determine, and distributed among many hosts.

Here's a rough guide based on a count of the files in the /levels directory.

  • Doom - 2291
  • Doom II - 6725
  • Hacx - 6
  • Heretic - 334
  • Hexen - 183
  • Strife - 3
I might update these figures later on if there's sufficient interest. :-)
