Archvile in Plutonia Level 27 Help

Hi Gang,
Been going through the all Doom levels using a pistol start on UV.
There is an Archvile in a tower on level 27 and I cant find a way of actually hitting it.
It doesn't warp anywhere, just keeps out of sight and resurrects the nearby chaingunner.

Is this a bug or am I missing the solution?

(All the following IIRC) You're not supposed to kill them directly. Just continue forward ignoring the chaingunners' fire. Eventually, you'll trigger crushers that will kill these arch-viles, and then they'll stop respawning the chaingunners.

Indeed, you can't kill that Arch Vile whose only purpose is to resurect that Chaingunner non stop. Though you can obviously still get 100% kills, or more, by killing the Chaingunner twice or more.

The reason the Vile can resurect the Chaingunner despite being down that hole, is because IIRC the Vile's resurection code doesn't have a Z plane (height) check. It only checks that the corpse is within a certain distance on the X or Y plane and that there is no void between the Vile and corpse.
