Diablo III announced!

Recommended Posts

I couldn't play the originals for more then 5 minutes. What's the big deal about this game?

1). Fuck you for beating me to posting of the thread(just kidding)
2). OMFG!
3). Upon seeing it when I woke up this morning I ran outside and screamed DIABLO 3 WOOOOO. My housing complex didnt appreciate that very much.
<......... 4). Baal Face Avatar.
Aside from those 3 key points, I personally have waited 8 years for this. Judging from the gameplay videos and faq it seems like they've kept the style that kept Diablo fun and will be adding on to it.

I know they've said that there'll still be randomly generated areas, but that video isn't very reassuring.

The original Diablo was one of my favorite games ever, but the sequel kinda ruined it for me. Well, who knows, maybe this will be different.

Point taken. Now I play Doom, Hexen and tend to map :)

Still, I'm kinda disappointed they didn't turn Diablo III tech. Still the same barbarians and wild wizards aka witch doctors formerly as druids?

EDIT: Can't help but mention the striking similarity Diablo/Doom. Battling demons right.

I saw my buddies playing Diablo II. It reminded me of HeXen. Maybe I should play Diablo...

I'm not big on the series but nevertheless I was surprised. I was curious as to how they were going to extend the storyline.

Kinda the same here, actually. I played the first one like crazy but the second one I just couldn't get into somehow...

I think the second was really better. Longer, better balanced and with more monster and item variation.

I think that the only elements which kept the first Diablo interesting were the findable spells in books and the more diversified shrines.

Really I think that the Hell episode of Diablo 2 was kickass (and the eponymous boss too, UNLIKE his first version). Would be cool to see it rendered in Doom. In fact, the whole of Diablo 2 would be cool in Doom (or Hexen!); I somehow wanted Diablo 2 to be first-person, it would have benefited greatly from the ambient sounds and monster fights, and no more need for a light radius (which made it feel a bit artificial IMO).

I agree with Vile, here... All the badasses are dead, so I wonder who are we going to fight this time. They said there would be a more immersive scenario...

If they could keep the variety of styles (jungle, desert, hell, mountains... especially hell, in fact), It would be great :)

The soul stones allowed them to manifest in Sanctuary.

The Prime Evils otherwise simply respawn via some process if they should "die".

With the World Stone destroyed, Heaven/Hell/Sanctuary begins to merge.

(this is the gist of what you get out of the conclusion to d2x, and probably forms the basis for what happens in d3)

I'm happy! I wasn't sure if there was going to be another one. Hoorah necromancer!

This supports the theory (Carmack's, I believe) that story in a computer game is like story in a porno. And hardly any developer does its storylines more gratuitously than Blizzard.

On the other hand WoW wouldn't be half the game if it didn't have a substantial amount of lore behind some of its more epic, game-defining questlines.

My friend texted me about this in the morning and I went straight to blizzard's site. Just.. Plain... AWESOME!!!!

I've waited a long time for this. The Diablo franchise is one of my favorites! I'm glad its still over the head view, just with 3-D graphics, which is what I was hoping for.

I'm curious on what the deal is with the meteor crashing down into the world of Sanctuary. This is something I would never of guessed but it probably will be some important plot device.

Also, the game will probably be much larger. If you go to the world map on the site, it shows a bunch of cities (only two are confirmed now), but it would be great if all of those are added, adding much more variety to the environment. D1 had the basic creepy, and hellish dungeon crawling feel (very well done imo), and D2 extended it with adding desert, jungle, and mountain terrain.

Sweet. I feel like playing through the first two games now. I'm really glad they kept the same style of gameplay, not going first person or anything silly like that, or even having a rotating camera (at least from what you see there. Diablo is the ultimate roguelike.

I'd like to see how the plot goes on now that the three prime evils (and two of the lesser evils) are destroyed.

True enough. I think my two favorite quest lines in the game are the Defias/Onyxia/King of Stormwind quest line and the Uldaman/Uldum/Titan questline, even though neither have gotten a real conclusion yet. I don't know if Horde has any quest lines so epic.

One thing that does bother me about Blizzard is that their story lines are sometimes a little TOO epic. It's like the story can't be advanced without a city/continent/world being obliterated or someone going completely emo for no reason. That and the fact that Starcraft and Warcraft 3 have nearly identical plot lines.

The Diablo series was at least a great deal more subtle.

I like Diablo 2 the best as well, especially since you can run. I always found Diablo too slow for me and sometimes I would get killed because I just could not get to the exit in time. You could also loose all of your good stuff if you got overwhelmed by a horde. This has happened to me a couple times and there was no way for me to fight them with nothing, thus resulting in my stuff disappearing when I leave. The hordes of monsters everywhere is probably why these games are fun (kinda like Doom). Anyway, I am definitely going to get Diablo 3.

I think after hearing about this, I have to burn my pants. No way they'll ever be clean after this. But I still wonder how this new Diablo will play out. Last I heard, most of the Diablo II team had left and created Hellgate: London.

I hope they'll take some part of the Warcraft III engine and allow the camera to be lowered on the ground, possibly even allow a first-person perspective (but with better texture detail all-around and better modelling, unlike Warcraft III).

Maybe the remaining lesser evils will have their last (?...) words in Diablo 3. Belial, for example. :)

If you guys are that curious about how the storyline's going to take off I would suggest you read the new sin war trilogy books. The author told interviewers previously that IF a Diablo sequel were to be made(and also said he wasnt writing for a dead game) that it would be based off the series hes currently writing.

Some french mates have tried to create a Diablo TC for Morrowind, the shots were really convaincing, but the project is dead since a long time now...

No potions!

They didnt take potions out of the game. They were just stating they were introducing a new drop that makes it a bit more easier on the player during battle instead of having to stop, open up your inventory and chug a lug.
